To be fair, my story puts Tali out of her suit nearly two years after the Quarians have returned to Rannoch; thus giving the race as a whole time to go through the stages you outlined. I must say that I find her keeping any sort of hood or veil hard to believe, as she stated that she wished to walk "bear beneath the sun like our ancestors" (or something like that).
As to the "I'd rather not put Tali through pain", I'm a bit contested on that issue. I understand the concerns, but you could use the procedure as the final hurdle for her freedom. Especially if it takes awhile (multiple procedures) to complete, you could have a touching conversation between herself and Shepard where Shep asks her if its really worth it. But perhaps my views on this are colored by my leanings (at least according to NuclearBuddha) towards 'sensationalism'.
Either way... Good Luck if you choose to write it.
Point - that would make for better storytelling.
I'm reading the rest of Beneath the Veil, by the way. I had only known of the first chapter before tonight.
I do intend on doing a wedding scene at one point way down the line. I envision Tali going into a wedding boutique and having a human dress modified for the occasion. During the initial fitting, I imagine the sales girl would get very nervous when it came time to hand Tali the veil. Not understanding, Tali would probably keep questioning the poor girl until she finally stammered out what the last piece of cloth was for.
Either Tali would laugh and tell the girl that she wouldn't be needing that part, or else should would get very quiet and tersely say to get rid of it. I don't know yet.

This is making me think of Scy Lancer's funny FF about Tali's wedding and how the Normandy girls end up explaining the concept of "virginal white" to her. Tali asks if that's some sort of rule, because she doesn't think she can wear it if it is.Orion1836 wrote...

Well that's. . . odd. I've seen hate posts and fan posts. . . but never a 'neutral' post.

As to the "wedding scene", I find the image of her getting fitted most d'awwable. The part about the Veil is hard to determine, as I could easily see her doing either. Perhaps having another squaddie there (such as Kasumi, who I could see as one of her 'bridesmaids') could help ease tensions. I think it would be interesting for Tali to go through a "human wedding"... perhaps they would toss in some quarian customs?

Now ask yourselves; how many women that went up to the altar actually held true to the color of her dress? At least in the West...cannedcream wrote...

Done and done.
I had originally planned the scene with Kasumi helping with the fitting, but then I thought... as awesome as Kasumi is, the whole wedding dress process requires a specialist (even in 2185 I'm sure), and those are skills Kasumi just doesn't have.
I envision any sort of wedding taking place after the Reapers have been defeated. By then, Shepard and company would be bloody famous, and the Council would naturally want to get as much of that spotlight as possible. Tali and Shepard would probably plan for a quiet wedding, but I see the Council going out of their way to make it a celebrity affair held on the citadel in the same vein as Princess Di's wedding back in the 80s.
Normally, Shepard would tell them to go to hell, but in this case, he'd see an opportunity to change the galaxy's opinion on the Quarian people.
Queue the Council chamber, filled with spectators and literally thousands of cameras. The Migrant Fleet is parked outside the Citadel. Half of the invited guests are Quarians, with the Admiralty Board up front, and the centerpiece of the whole affair, the bride, is an unsuited Quarian decked out with a small fortune of clothing and jewlery.
Political ****storm would be putting it mildly, Udina.
@Nuke - do you have a link to that fic?
