I guess that's the moment where we start calling them a different race instead of aliens.

Well I mean there were those UFO's around the sun in January.
And of course the various sightings around the planet if they are to be believed

"Xenophile" is a pretty strong word.

I'd go with "Opening my eyes to more alternatives and experencing a new kind of entertainment with new people "

But I guess xenophilia works.

That makes you wonder, what happens when humanity finds other sentient life like us and falls in love with them?

Assuming they are human-like (eyes and a mouth) or even bipedal. I would assume that inter-racial relationships would be frowned upon for about a couple hundred years. Though I could see laws being rewritten to allow for inter-racial couples so neither of them would be charged with bestality (a term that also would need to be redefined).

I'm sure on Earth live many maniacs:alien: that would find aliens atractive no matter what would they look like.

I agree, because I wouldn't call the connection of love between Tali and Shepard beastality.

The definition I think that made the most sense for bestality is "Relations with a lower lifeform." Simple yet pretty much covers it. Wouldn't call a space-faring race a lower lifeform.

Envy
Prompted by a discussion sparked by Collider
--------------
It was early into the third shift on the Normandy. Tali was exhausted; she had been doing the work of three people, and she had worked nearly 20 hours. Ken and Gabby were off ship on the human Time of Joining. What was it...a honeymoon? she asked herself as she sat after grabbing some food.

She nodded a greeting. "Hello Miranda," Tali said, her voice tired.

"Long day in engineering?"

"Keelah yes," Tali said after having more of her paste. "Those two really do more work than I thought." She looked around quickly. "Nothing I can't handle, of course."

Miranda only laughed softly. "Of course not. Nothing is impossible for the perfect engineer." They laughed and ate in companionable silence for a moment. Finally, the commanding officer sighed.

"I envy you, Tali," she began as she set her utensils down.

Tali looked over at the brunette in shock. "W..What?"

"I do," she said again with a small smile. "When you first joined the ship, I wanted to dislike you. The Illusive Man had not planned on you, nor on what possible effect you would have on the Commander."

Miranda shook her head with a smirk. "He was unsettled enough with the revelation that one of the commander's oldest friends was the bloody Archangel."

"Really? That wasn't planned?" Tali asked.

The human answered, "Not at all. The initial plan was to keep Shepard as far away from his previous friends and contacts as possible. After the changes he went through when agent Vakarian joined the team, the plan was reconsidered." Tali tilted her head to the side in confusion.

"I noticed it on Freedom's Progress," Miranda said to the unspoken question. "And again when we found Garrus. His stance would shift slightly, and suddenly, the Commander Shepard that had saved the Citadel was in front of us. I figured out what was missing then."

"What was missing?" the engineer asked, her dinner abruptly forgotten.

Miranda took a sip of her drink, then answered, "Trust and Acceptance. I don't think either the Illusive Man or I had factored how important that was to the commander." Finally, Miranda looked up and stared straight into the quarian's eyes.

"And that is why I envy you Tali," she said softly. "For the longest time, all I have ever really wanted was to be accepted; to not feel like an outsider even among my own kind. And you had that with Shepard and Vakarian."

The human bowed her head. "I hated you for that. That you had what I wanted. And I didn't understand how you did it." She let out a laugh. "When in reality, I needed to learn how to accept myself, and trust others."

Miranda looked down at Tali's left hand, at the platinum band that was attached to the outside of her suit as a visible example of the actual ring worn inside the enviro-suit. The human reached out with her own left hand to grasp Tali's, and inspect the ring. Finally she smiled.

"I think I finally understand Tali" she said as she let go of the quarian's hand. And now the only thing I envy about you was that you learned it before I did. That you did not waste years learning such a valuable lesson."

Tali could only nod as she sat there, stunned. She saw Miranda smile at her before the human got up and moved off. It was then her mind finally understood what she had seen and what she had heard. She stood quickly and grabbed Miranda's hand.

"John taught me," Tali blurted out as Miranda looked back at her in surprise. "And I didn't understand until he was gone. Then he came back, and I understood."

She smiled, even though Miranda couldn't see it. Releasing the human hand, she gave Miranda a brief hug. When she released it, she grabbed the left hand again, smiling all the while.

"Congratulations to both of you," Tali said after a moment. "If you'll excuse me, it's time for me to get some sleep." She made her goodbyes, then headed up to deck one, where her man waited for her.

Tired as she was, it had been a good day.

And the other one, for those that missed it last night (slightly updated)
--------------
Movie Night Drama
Here is the first entry, off of a prompt by nickFury.
-----------------
Tali was irritated. The film their bosh'tet pilot had subjected the crew to had left her seething.  She could not even look at the geth platform amongst them at this point. Why would he make us watch this....this....horror? Grumbles of displeasure were audible to the human that was lounging next to her.

Judging from how tense she sat next to him, Shepard figured that Tali was probably angry at the movie choice for the evening.  Hoping to diffuse the situation, he put his hand on her should and rubbed gently, trying to sooth her.  He felt her tense briefly, then begin to calm.

"So what did everyone think?"  Joker asked from his place in the room.  He was smiling; despite its age, he thoroughly enjoyed the classic piece of cinema humans called The Matrix.  He was not prepared for the quarian to leap to her feat.

She stood, her irritation returned.  "How could you make us watch something so horrible Joker?"  She asked with some heat. "You, Bosh'tet!  That could have been us!  And you thought it was a good film?"

Everyone quieted.  Nearly as one, the away team turned to glance at Joker.  His look of surprise made Jack snicker - until she caught Tali's glare as it focused on her. Then she laughed outright, making Tali's mood worse.

John stood, placing himself between Tali and Jeff.  "Tali, it's just a film," he began.  He held a hand up when it looked like she would argue.  "Yes, it is horrifying what happened to the living, breathing people.  But that's not what we should be taking away from the story."

"No, the real story is that, despite everything the machines tried, they could not stamp out the individuality, and the will to live from people.  "He smiled softly, as he saw her visibly begin to relax.  "That all it takes sometimes is one person to stand up and say 'enough is enough'."

Joker nodded.  "I'm sorry Tali.  I didn't think when I selected it.  My bad," he said with genuine remorse.

After a moment, Tali finally relaxed.  "I am sorry for yelling," she began.  "It is a very sensitive subject."

"It is, and it was wrong to have it brought up so casually," the commander agreed easily.  "In the future, let's think a little more carefully about what is we're watching when we try to relax.  "He shook his head.  "It would be just as bad to force some of us to sit through The Citadel."

Actually, this part confused me:

She smiled, even though Miranda couldn't see it. Releasing the human
hand, she gave Miranda a brief hug. When she released it, she grabbed
the left hand again, smiling all the while.

"Congratulations to
both of you," Tali said after a moment.
"If you'll excuse me, it's time
for me to get some sleep." She made her goodbyes, then headed up to
deck one, where her man waited for her.

Why is she congratulating Miranda?  Did she get together with someone?

I think its implied that Jacob asked Miranda to marry him.

When she released it, she grabbed the left hand again, smiling all the while.

"When did he ask?"

Miranda's smile was warm as she looked down at her left hand. "A couple of days ago, when we were all on the Citadel. We went back to the place we met, and he asked me there."

"Congratulations to both of you," Tali said after a moment.

I wonder though, if we do encounter another race, will it one day be that it will be sort of a bad thing to have relations with other humans, kind of like the Asari seem to dislike the whole pureblood thing?

Nicely done. I must say damn fine work.

On another note: I read through Soban's Renegade Reign of Romance. I was not turned from the path I have chosen. While I do not like the way that romance played out in th fic(It was still a damn fine piece of writing). I do however think that is a little overblown. Renegade does not mean d**k. Or an outright b*****d. I don't like seeing Tali treated as a slave and I find it a bit ridiculous that a man saving a galaxy would be like that. But then again when Shep starts with the racial crap it starts to turn south so I can see where it comes from. Bah all that story did in the end was make me want to explain the decisions I made.

Try reeding Redtracer7's A Creed Unhinged.  Shows a good example of a "fall" from Pragon to Renegade and the difficulty in returning from it.

Also keep an eye on Angel of Death by Azint and Riptide.  Depending on how they take it, it could be the example you are looking for (or it might jsut reinforce your stance; unsure atm.)
