When did Ascension come out again? I wonder if the story was fully developed before they had any details about the Migrant Fleet mission in ME2 hammered out, or even before they had planned to include the Migrant Fleet in the story.

I can see them coming up with the idea that they must wear envirosuits at all time because the developers were dead set on having the Migrant Fleet in ME2 but still didn't want to design quarians without their envirosuits on. Then the writer just fits that limitation into the book. But if the depiction in the book came first... I don't know. Just didn't like it, and I also figured from Tali's story about her mother that the quarians didn't bother with the envirosuits on their own ships.

Exactly my thoughts as well.

I'm not really sure what to think if Ascension did come first though :?

I think its the quarian pride that makes me balk at having full appreciation of the quarians. The trials and tribulations of an entire civilization trying to survive only in space intrigues me. But pride irritates me, from anyone. I even call Mordin on it during his loyalty mission.
Given how other civilizations treat the quarians, I can certainly see them needing to take pride in who they are when everyone else is saying they're little more than vagrants. But at some point, you have to stop blaming others for your continuing problems.
I think I'm sounding a lot more harsh against quarians than I actually believe, but I'm not finding the words here.

Outside the admirals, I really  can't remember seeing prideful Quarians. Can you remind me by giving an example?

There's one Quarian on the Flotilla who says something like "Shepard may be human but s/he can speak eloquently." Other than that and Korris, no one. I was going to say Prazza, but Prazza's problem with Shepard was not that s/he was human, but that s/he was Cerberus.

So far as Tali's mother goes, I interpreted it as her mother being in one of the "clean rooms" - meaning one of the only places on the ship where one can remove their suit in solitude, and the air filter had broken down, therefore causing her mother to get sick and die.

I think that's exactly what happened.

Sounds logical. Things on a ship that old breaks all the time.

It really would not suprise me if that was the case but I wonder why it doesn't happen alot, ... , well they are Quariens

Thats about what I remembered myself.

Impression given because of the Admirals and Tali to a degree. It's a generalization just as much as any given the limited data we're given on any species in the game. It's an understandable pride, but it will only get them so far.

They are going to take extra precautions to make sure that air filters don't break down. That's why it may not happen so often. When it does, I presume, it's because of the poverty that Quarians have to endure - they cannot realistically use state of the art technology.

Agreed, that was a complaint that I had as well.  The talks with Tali in the first game seemed to hint at the quarians not requiring suits on the flotilla as well.  At least that's how I interpreted Tali's mother dying from an outbreak.  Outbreaks in general shouldn't happen with everyone wearing suits at all times.

Wearing suits at all times seems more detrimental than anything else, further weakening their immune systems over time.

Maybe there are some "clean" rooms... who knows.m

I never noticed Tali being prideful at all, to be honest. She does care about the welfare of her people, which is understandable, but that's not the same as being proud to be a Quarian. Considering her negativity towards the suit and her treatment by the Admiralty Board, I find it hard to believe that she would be proud.

Korris himself also does not seem to be proud of being Quarian. Perhaps he is even ashamed.

Why does it always come down to this, that when someone doesn't want to end something in a total genocide, they are called cowards and such?

Like Phil said earlier, I would find that to be a retrofit to accommodate what we learn from Ascension and ME2. That has to be the explanation now because that's how we've learned how life in the flotilla works. But clean rooms were not a concept described in ME1, nor was there any indication one way or the other that quarians needed to wear their envirosuits at all times even among the fleet.

The only real answer would have to come from the development team on just how much they had hammered out about how quarian life worked before and after ME1.

I find that's often the reaction people have toward someone who doesn't feel war is the answer against a known foe. If you don't want to fight, it doesn't matter the reason, you're simply a coward.

I don't subscribe to that opinion myself.

It has always been that way.

Among some people, it's a sign of weakness.

If fighting is assured to lead to victory, then fight.

I think I should finally read the Ascension... :?
But if not the clean rooms, then how could Tali's mother get sick. She had to be out of that damn suit

According to Legion, whenever the quarians felt success was a possibility, they have attacked 100% of the time. Hasn't led them to victory yet.

Peace is of course the greatest chance for the survival of any of the species. If the Quarians attacked in conventional warfare, they would be wiped out. At this point, the Geth need to tell the Quarians that they want peace. Otherwise, nothing will change.

If we're talking about The Art of War, I'm sure you could find plenty of quotes that show Korris is the smart one.  In fact, that book should pretty much be his main defense.

Fighting is the assured way to victory?

Yeah, tell that to the billions of quarians that died in the Morning War...
