well, yeah hundreds of thousands is plausible for the size of the reaper fleet but by the number you actually see on screen at the end i went with hundreds.Formis_Sage wrote...

i'd personally be very receptive to a plotline where we realize the reapers cannot be defeated and the cycle continues indefinately. i mean its happened at least hundreds of times before, the only thing that makes humanity special in any story we write it is the fact we wrote it and thus always win. also i'd like to know if its just our galaxy the reapers f*ck with or all of the billions of others in the universe.
I disagree with the only thing different being the narrator. The reapers always win because they cheat. Societies throughout history depended on the mass relays and the Citadel, and the reapers take those things away before the war starts. Its like an enemy taking away all of your weapons, killing your generals, and then declaring war on you. The ME races won't have to deal with that handicap. They will maintain the ability to coordinate and organized resistance, and make the reapers fight a fair fight for the first time ever. That's why they have the best chance of anyone to live (thanks protheans)
Also, assuming Shep gets the people ready before the reapers actually get here, that's another bonus, no one in the past had an advanced warning, and a headstart in the defence effort.
And I feel ignored. <_<

By a "fair fight" you mean that our fleet will be smashed from the sky after 10 minutes instead of 5?
And I don't think we are the frist "race" that got a warning but maybe the first "race" that will make it.
I don't see any reason to assume that another race got a fair warning. Prior to the protheans reworking them, the keepers opened the relay, the reapers showed up on the Citadel front door, and started killing things. Its not like the keepers would warn people before doing this.
Once you lose the Citadel, you lose the ability to travel the mass relays, so each system is cut off. Its shooting fish in a barrel from there.

7. "Sweet, Legion and Jacob survived! Mordin, take the crew back to the ship. Grunt, since you're loyal, you'll hold the line instead of Zaeed. This definitely will not backfire on me later."
8. "Jack, since you want to ride me and I'm with Tali instead, I'll let you protect us from the swarms because I trust you. Keep it up! Good job! You are a WORTHY PERSON."
9. "Okay, we're at the other door. Grunt, get everyone through and-"

The geth fleet was inferior to Sovereign, but we're led to believe it was on par with current Council tech. The Citadel fleet was surprised by the reapers activating their special relay powers, and skipping past the main defense. That got the fleet out of order, and chaos ensues from there.
Shep killing Saren drops Saren's shields, but there's no guarantee that he wouldn't have gone down soon anyway. All it shows is that the reapers aren't invincible. The council attack was a unique situation, the reapers had the advantage of surprise, along with a lot higher number than the 300 or so that we see coming (assuming that's all there is.)
There is a lot of power in the galaxy that when properly prepared, should be able to offer more resistance than the reapers are bargaining for. Cheat codes shouldn't be necessary, though casualties will be high I'm sure.

I don't actually, its possible, but there's also nothing to really support that. The keepers could be the first method that the reapers came up with to open the relay, and that didn't backfire until now. That doesn't mean that something else necessarily went wrong in the past.

Mordin's actually only 30 something I believe. Its been stated that the listing of his age at 51 or whatever is the human equivalent or some other retconn-y explanation. Regardless of the reasoning, him dying soon shouldn't be a problem.

What I think be sweet if she and Garrus got there own teaser trailors talking about Sheperd and what he's done with some hints about whats coming, since both of them have been there since the start.
Tali: Why am I fighting for the lost? Because Shepard's got a SWEET ASS!
Tali: ...what, I can't be shallow every once in a while?

On one hand, I know she'd never say this and would still love to see a trailer for her.
On the other, this would be the greatest thing ever and I would laugh about it for the rest of my life.
