No...I din't read it yet but I hear it involved acid and knives. Tali suffering such a fate with just my limited understanding of what happened warrants a violent response. With all the "revenge killing doesn't fix things" that Paragon Shepard tells Garrus, I wonder what would happen if Tali died b/c of Cerberus - would he practice what he preeches?

To be fair, that incident with Hilo was Pel and Golo's fault. TIM never told them extract the information is such a horrible way. Infact, the book seems to suggest that they resorted to such techniques because Golo cracked Hilo's faceplate, and their time was limited before Hilo died.

Honestly?
I believe in revenge on a personal level. If someone killed Tali, I'd do some horrific things to them.
But... that's where Garrus comes in. I taught Garrus to be better than that. When I stopped him from killing Sidonis, it was because, while I would have killed the traitor if I was Garrus, I was there to stop him, because he's my friend, and I don't want that on his conscious. If I was about to do something similar to Tali's killer... and the tables were turned... I'd hope he'd be there to stop me.
Because nothing else in the universe could.

Yeah, Garrus would be the only one to talk me down. I wish I could make him the XO of the Normandy and fire Miranda (or at least demote her).
...afterwards, Garrus would help me bury the body too.

Ha.
It's never the Illusive Man's fault. Is it?
Hilo? Nope.
Jack? Nope.
Overlord? Nope.
Face it. Do you think he would have cared in the end? About any of them? As long as TIM gets what he wants, he doesn't care if he buys and tortures a few dozen child slaves. He doesn't care if a few quarians get their eyelids torn off. He sure as hell doesn't give a damn about what happened to David.
He plays you by saying it's regrettable, that it's the hard choices that only he is willing to make.
BULL****. He's a psychopath an a murderer. The only difference between him and Stalin is that he's better at lying to your face about it.

--SPOILERS BELOW--
Ascension actually delves quite extensivly into quarian culture and society. Its a must read for anyone who trully wants to understand Tali's people. As to Hilo, no, he's a minor character tortured for the sole purpose of getting the "code phrase" for a ship to return to the Migrant Fleet. His torture just so happens to be excessivly extreme.

If something like mindoir happened to him again but on a more personal level like tali's death there would be nothing that would stop me. There would be no place in heaven, hell, or the galaxy that those responsible could hide. Anyone who was responseable, anyone who profitted from it anyone who was even remotely aware of it would die. I'm talking a "Man on Fire" revenge trip amped up to eleven.

1) Highway 55 is apparently located in the Twilight Zone as the crap I've seen (and have heard other people seeing) on that road just keeps getting weirder.
2) My cat is a goddamn superhero, able to leap tall dressers in a single bound.
3) If I try to respond to my problems with quiet dignity and grace, they will only get worse. However; if I make a big enough ASS of myself, it will appease the gods and all will be solved, thus making me look like an even bigger ass.
Such is life.
Anyway. Topics?

You cannot judge a man, an organization, by the actions his/it's subordinates take, unless those actions come about because of direct orders. TIM tells people to accomplish something. Its up to them to make the decisions as to how to accomplish them.
There is ample evidence to suggest that not all of his people take extreme measures to accomplish their goals. Miranda and Jacob in Mass Effect Galaxy, for example, save the Council without torture or excessive violence.

I found it to be a decent read, and its rather short (to my standards, at least). It's written by Bioware's lead writer, so yeah, I would say its good.

I believe Shepard would remind Garrus to do as he says, not as he does while loading his gun. Probably with incinerator ammo just to increase the hurt.

You're an idiot. A man tells his subordinate, who has a record of rape, torture, murder, and arson, to extract information from a woman with intel, should he be surprised when the woman ends up a broken, burned, ravaged mess?
TIM is guilty, because he knows EXACTLY how these people work, and he just turns them loose. He's even more guilty, because he has the power to STOP them.
I will annhilhate him and his entire organization.

No. Tempting, though.
After breaking the desktop and then thinking I broke the laptop, I brought both into a Best Buy to have them looked at. the desktop will be gone for several days, but all the laptop needed was the fifty pounds of dirt and dust cleaned out of it.
The change in heat and noise is incredible!
Anyway, before all of this I sent out several e-mails to all of my friends out of state and several internet contacts telling them I'd probably be gone for awhile and why and ****ing about it. . . only to find the laptop sill works fine and can be used for interneting until the desktop gets (HOPEFULLY) fixed.
I then got to send out another e-mail several hours later apologizing and asking to ignore the first.
