And yea, I was just referring to the frill method in general. I actually forgot about bats when I was thinking of that, though, as they use a similar technique by spreading their wings and fanning them back and forth to cool themselves.
Though it does present another issue, most animals that do have a frill are smaller predators that take prey too small to fight back. Even with the ability to 'lay down' a frill it presents a danger in that it is easily torn and can result in significant blood loss.
Hrm. Must continue to ponder.
BUT, this is just an exercise in evolution on cooling and no way expresses the view of this board in general.

Well the board in general has some wildly differing views already
It's a good exercise, though. Sharpens the mind.

I tend to reject non-hair theories just based on the headcloth, which seems to suggest hair. The pattern on it (at least in Tali's case) calls to mind the carved manes on Chinese stone lions: curly hair.
Though, like everyone else's theories, it is just a theory.
All we can do is to continue to discuss these theories until BW shows us otherwise.

My own personal thought leans towards hair. I would assume kept short, but then I'm not sure how exactly she would cut her hair, so possible its kept 'tied back' beneath the veil so it can continue to grow. Hrm. Actually would be quite a shock for Shepard to remove her mask to find back length hair on his engineer!

Maybe that's part of the reason for him smiling in that scene in his cabin?

I would be quite surprised myself if it turns out she has really long hair. Shep should definitely go for her hood after he has removed the mask next time.

If there is hair, it'd have to be short or shaved. Hair is a natural enemy of clean environments.
That was actually my speculation above. She never takes the suit off (not that is stated at least) so how is she keeping it short? I mean you wouldn't really want razors in your helmet.
Hence why I was thinking of something that maybe involves their hair being gathered back in one of the tubes we see on the males. The suits cleaning systems keep it tidy and out of the way.

You know the only problem I have with this image is that is the face is too "humanish". It's cute and all, but when you compare this to the other Mass Effect race, it's quite...unoriginal.
And yes, you can say that Asaris look a lot like humans too, but they do have some traits that definitly make them alien (tentacle head anyone?). This taliface does not give me that impression.
