*Shepard and Garrus lounge around in the Forward Battery, the two friends laughing about old times. A comfortable silence is shared before Garrus interrupts.*

Garrus: I was wondering... Ah, forget it.

Shepard: What?

Garrus: Nothing. Forget about it.

*Shepard leans forward on the crate he sits on.*

Shepard: Garrus, what's on your mind?

*Garrus' mandibles twitch slightly as he turns to Shepard.*

Garrus: Do you ever worry about your relationship with Tali? About... the risks?

*Shepard's expression grows visibly grim as he lets out a deep sigh, closing his eyes before continuing.*

Shepard: Yes. Every single day. It terrifies me. I can fight just about anything, Garrus. I can kill a thresher maw on foot without even breaking a sweat. I go into a battlefield with Tali by my side and I know I can protect her. I know nothing will happen to her. I know I can't fail. But the idea that us being together... The thought of that hurting her... It's the scariest thing in the world.

*Garrus could see his friend's doubt weighing on him.*

Garrus: Do you love her?

*Shepard opens his eyes, turning to Garrus.*

Shepard: I... I don't know...

Garrus: Yes you do.

*Shepard leans back against the wall, a thousand thoughts running through his head before he finally let's it out.*

Shepard: Yes. I do. I love her.

Garrus: Well then, there you go. What could be wrong with that? I've seen the way you look at each other. Loving each other and then acting on it should never have room for doubt. If you love someone, you would do anything for them, regardless of consequence. I might not be much of a romantic, Shepard, but I know that much.

 What to say, Shepard must sacrifice something for the relationship. Tali is risking her life everytime out of the suit. :D

Yeah, pretty much this.

That girl is willing to risk an agonizing death for just a kiss.

Some cleaning is the very ****ing least Shepard could do.

I bet if I turned on a UV-light in the cabin, it wouldn't look so clean. At all.Image IPB

That means another cleaning. :D

Hmm... I find the prospect of Shepard decontaminating the Cabin while Tali teases him to be hilarious.

It sucks, let me tell you.  First you vacuum.  Then you wipe every horizontal surface.  Then you mop the ceiling in long swipes, always toward the exit.  Then you mop the walls, top to bottom, again in the direction of the door.  Finally, the floor, working your way out of the room.

By this time you're sweating, your back and arms ache, and your eyes and nostrils are burning from the harsh disinfectants (sporicides are the worst of the bunch).  Probably you're woozy from the fumes, too.

And you're going to have to do it again, probably less than a week from the last time you cleaned.  Especially if you plan on getting naked in there.

And this is why I take the easy way out and have Decontamination systems installed in the Cabin.  Clean room FTW.

Or just order Ken and Gabby to install a decon unit in the cabin.

Those things are nothing short of magical.

As is Tali :)
Your right, you don't decon something by using a simple laser lightshow but ME1 and 2 did it so Shep can too!

Yeah, at least Shepard gets to bang a hot alien babe, no matter what Brannigan's Law has to say.

Ah, Shepard...

You can act like a complete dork and still end up with some fine alien booty.

I envy you.

Also on the to-do list. Finish romance, creating single!Shep to eliminate guilt.

That's awesome! I knew you were gunna get Tali exiled for your FF writing purposes, yes? Didn't know you hadn't tried the romance, either.

I admire that you're going single!Shep, tis what I will do for each romance to spare my guilt, just like you. Maybe, MAYBE I'll create a confrontation if I hear that it's too good to ignore. If it's as lame as the ME1 confrontation, which I imagine it is, I don't think I'll have to.

I almost had it done, but felt so guilty for cheating on Liara that I broke up with her. General :wub:of the cuteness of the romance wasn't enough to resolve certain issues with the romance. I have a single!Shep. Might reuse him.

I'm only doing the confrontation if it ends with Shep getting decked and the two LIs going out for drinks if he tries to have both.

Mass Effect Fields.  The defense rests. :P

Eh, I figured there would need to be at least 3 - the actual room itself, the bathroom, and the door to the Cabin.  And Mordin would probably harness data from all 3 to 'assist' in the adaptation of Tali to Shepard.
*cough*

I try.

I like to think that nobody saw Garrus coming through with the serious romantic wisdom.

Wow, considering the FF I read from you among other things, I'm surprised you were stumped.

I'm only doing the confrontation if it ends with Shep getting decked and the two LIs going out for drinks if he tries to have both.

Haha agreed. That's how it should have been in ME1. Considering Liara's a virgin, the fact she was ok with sharing is a tad disconcerting.

No.  That's not it at all.  I look at it as this:  Tali (and all quarians) are prisoners to their suits, to the Flotilla.  If both were quarians on their homeship, they would be able to (to steal from Cal) submit a request for a clean room.  Even if it is just to see face to face, and not just to fornicate.

Tali deserves to have that option as well. Seeing as it is going to take her longer to adapt to Shepard than another quarian, she deserves the options that a determined captain can provide. Yes, it is a luxury. But she will have something few quarians will have - the option to be unsuited with her lover whenever she wants.

It is freedom. That is why it is important.

The ability to get some Tali-lovin' is a very nice side effect, but not the primary one IMO.

I really like Liara's romance, Goat, and it was fresh in my mind. And, while I did enjoy the Talimance as it was presented prior to Omega-4, it didn't grab me quite enough. Gender difference?

*Shepard sits there, soaking in the revelation.*

Shepard:
Thanks, Garrus. I needed to hear that.
Garrus: Anytime, Shepard.

*Short pause. Shepard stands up, then motions toward the door.*

Shepard: I've got to get back to work.
Garrus: Alright. I'll be here if you need me.

*Shepard leaves. As the door shuts behind him, Garrus mimics a pistol with a hand firing a shot in Shepard's direction, then blows imaginary smoke off a finger.*

Garrus: Scoped and dropped...

*Garrus holsters his imaginary pistol to his hip with a flourish, then reactivates his console. There are always more calibrations to do.*

This is exactly what happened prior to the conversation.

As the writer, I hearby decree it to be so.
