Am I the only Talimancer who likes Jacob?
Plus, he's so bloody boring I hardly take him anywhere.
Okay, he's not the most interesting character and maybe like is to strong a word. But I seem to be the only person here who does not hate Jacob and Miranda.
No your not I like em too but mostly everyone has there minds set on hating them and trying to fight to change their minds is a pointless up hill battle.
What did Sun Tzu say about up hill battles... don't fight them.
The points I agree with, the outright malicious hatred I don't.... Oh well Que 'Sera' Sera..
I do agree with you If was in Miranda shoes I would have joined Cerberus too if the offered me protection for my sister/Brother/ Family...

It was in 4.0, I know that.

Not exactly my proudest moment around here.

I wanted to punch his face in when he made the nonchalant suggestion to Tali to introduce herself to EDI the ship's AI. Everyone in the DAMN GALAXY knows that Quarians hate AIs and have a bad history to them. It would be like if your acquaintance (jacob's not my friend) said to your jewish friend to introduce herself to Jeff, the Neo-****. The situation of EDI should have been handled by the CO in a calm, respectable manner.

That did seem to be a world-class world class bonehead move on Jacob's part. But both Jacob and Miranda (and the entire Cerberus organization) don't see themselves as bad guys, which in my opinion strengthens them as characters. They see themselves as doing the right thing when no one else in the Galaxy would, and to a certain extent they are right. The Reapers are coming, but other than Cerberus there are precicely zero other teams/groups/organizations in the galaxy who are doing anything about it.
That being said, they are still part of a shadow group working outside the law and beyond the pale of acceptable civilized conduct. But they are helping Shepard save Life As We Know It... They're the only game in town, and the fact it's got so many players riled up about it shows Bioware hasn't lost their touch about making people get emotionally involved in their games. Some people support Cerberus, others don't, and the effect of forcing our stalwart heroes from ME1 cooperate with them has had the polarizing effect that it should have.
Personally, I couldn't stand Miranda when I first talked with her. She was the first one I was going to try and get killed and wouldn't trust her as far as I could throw her. But (as I do with any Bioware game) I talked with everybody extensively and learned more about what motivated her and made her what she was. (Anybody ever play Baldur's Gate? I worked hard on bringing Viconia around, so I don't give up on people so easily, at least in games.) I thought she was too cold and remote to ever be one of the team like Wrex, Garrus or Tali, but in the end, if Shepard wants to destroy the Collector base, she tells the Illusive Man to cram it and quits Cerberus on the spot. When push came to shove, she took the high road.
Jacob gets a lot of crap for being dull. For me, he was the only guy I trusted up until the point Garrus and Tali showed up. Even if he tends to rush into things, he always told the truth, admired the old crew for what they did, and volunteered for any hazardous duty... Not a bad guy to have around. But what really sold him was the fact that even though he and Shepard were both out of the Alliance, he still saluted Shepard as if rank still mattered. And the first thing he did upon meeting Tali and Garrus was to honestly compliment them, which made his stock go up with me.
So, IMHO, two decent, thoroughly flawed people who given the chance would choose to do the right thing given the chance, especially if they had someone like Shepard to show them options they may never have thought they had.
Speaking of the AI introduction thing, I'm gonna slip the very first fic I ever wrote in because it begins with that very quote. That's what Bioware has reduced me to, writing fanfic for a freakin' computer game. Thanks a bunch, guys....
Just Like Old Times
BTW, just for the record, Tali FTW -- had a thing for her since ME1, got stuck with Liara for the achievement, but always hung out in Engineering because, well, it was Tali...

He knew EXACTLY what he was doing. He's just like the Illusive Man, hiding bull**** behind a smile. Romance him at least once, and take ALL of the different convo paths. Trust me, it becomes VERY apparent that he hides how he feels about people.
(At least Jacob is not SO boring that we can't **** about him!)

The switch from the old forums must have happened just before I signed up here, as I find it hard to find another with a sign-up date as "early" as mine.
