I'm actually looking forward to the whole Shepard's mom thing since my shep was a spacer. Makes me very curious how she'll react.

I doubt this will ever happen. Bioware seems to have forgotten about Shepards origins in ME2 and probably will in ME3.

No, you get some mentions there just aren't any questions. I got a new update about Shepard's mother turning down a promotion to Admiral and an email from Toombs from the sole survivor background.

I was actually referring to writing the scene in my fic when I (finally) get to that point, though. Haven't decided how that's going to play out.

Am I the only Talimancer who likes Jacob?

I don't really mind Jacob, he's just an ass sometimes.

Plus, he's so bloody boring I hardly take him anywhere. :?

Okay, he's not the most interesting character and maybe like is to strong a word. But I seem to be the only person here who does not hate Jacob and Miranda.

I don't like Miranda and her attitude from the start. Against Jacob I had nothing except the fact he's boring and naive (A lot) because if he really thought that Cerberus won't harm Veetor... Excuse me but that is pinnacle of stupidity. If you remember how is Cerberus working... No way...
But based on posts from Rip and Harms...

I would like it if some situation can play out differently depednding on your background, or lead to some more assignments which suits that background. instead of just more emails.

Secondly, i'll bet there are a lot more people willing to be civil or even polite to quarians than fanfiction would Iadmit. Not that many, mind you, but i'd like to think there are more Shepard's and Dr. Michel's out there than Saren's and Harrot's.

Most people never meet a quarian and the ones that do (authority figures, outcasts, black marketeers, etc.) are more likely to be jerks than the average member of the galactic population, I think.

Not everyone who meets a quarian is an authority figure, outcast, or othersuch. Regular crowds, shopowners, people going to and from work on the Citadel or other colonies. Apathy or ignoring them would be the norm, I think, but being a jerk takes extra time and effort than apathy. Perhaps there's an equivalent -or close- amount of saints and jerks in the galaxy. Who knows?

Also, I'd like to think the people Veetor met on Freedom's Progress treated him right... you know, before the monsters came and took everyone. I'd hate to think he got that traumatized after seeing people who hated him get abducted. Even on Illium, Valley Girl Quarian and Slave Girl Quarian seemed to have met some pretty decent people. Friend Zone Turian, if nothing else, is proof that while quarians may have bad reputations and stigmas attached to them, it's not a big deal for most people to overlook them or give individuals a chance.

Like I said, probably not a lot of them, but I think there's a decent amount of nice people out there.

Actually if you complete the background mission in ME1, you get an email from your mother.

One angry letter back to her.

Topic: MOM! I'm supposed to be undercover!

Seriously, you have to stop giving out my email address. Even people in Omega knows it. And my ship's head scientisct sends me... disturbing spam.

Can't believe I forgot about that, I almost always play a Spacer. The chances that they will do a conversation with Momshep tailored to each love interest are still pretty slim. Would be awesome though. I've read a couple of fics where she meets Tali, they all seem to write her the same way. Maybe you could have Momshep be a bit more skeptical about the relationship?

The email you get from her in game always sounded rather pissed anyways, so it has great promise.

Can see the whole 'Yep, actually am alive. Oh, did I mention the whole working for a terrorist organization and by the by, this is the love of my life, a quarian. So. Hows things?'

Uh... why?

Remember, this is Shepard's mom. This is a woman who eventually heard this story:

NCLanceman wrote...

"Okay, so once upon a time I became the XO on the first stealth ship in the Alliance fleet to pick up a 50,000 year old beacon on a farm in the middle of space. That didn't go so well, when a cyborg Space Raptor and his army of killer robots tried to burn down the place and kill everyone. But I stopped them and met Ash Williams, so that was cool. Also, I had the death scream of an ancient alien civilization / precursor to all galactic civilization burned into my brain. It was pretty intense, dude.

"So we go back to the Citadel to try to stop the cyborg Space Raptor from killing everyone, and eventually I met a Space Raptor Cowboy Cop, a Space Gypsy Master Machinist with a shotgun, and a Mercenary Battletoad. The Space Gypsy gave me the one piece of hard evidence I needed to become a Green Lantern Spectre -which was also pretty sweet- and off I went.

"After that, I went to a colony where I met a blue alien chick whose species reproduces by having brain sex with just about anything -and did!- with million year old psychic plant, who also burned more stuff into my brain so I could fully understand a galactic nightmare. Then I went to a world where another one of those blue alien chicks who turns out to be an archeologist specializing in these aliens was trapped in one of those old alien traps. Then I went to a frozen lab in the middle of nowhere where that alien chick's Mom was talking with an alien bug queen to locate some planet somewhere. I shot her, by the way. The mom, not the alien chick. Oh, and the Cyborg Space Raptor's killer robots were attacking every place I just mentioned. Following me so far?

"Okay, so I also found out about this tropical island planet where this guy was also breeding an army of cloned battletoads - I suppose to diversify from just having an army of killer robots - which I had to blow up. I also found out that the Cyborg Space Raptor's spaceship was actually a giant robot older than galactic civilization by hundereds of thosands of years easily, and then I found out what that nightmare really meant.

"I tried telling everyone at the Council all about this, but they stared at me like i'd just figured out how to eat my own head and locked me down. Captain Anderson was cool though and punched Udina so I could stop the guy - his name's Saren, if I didn't mention that. So, we fly halfway across the galaxy in our invisible starship, chase the guy in a tank through the last remaining stand to the Protheans, where we finally find out that his plan was to travel from that world to a piece of modern art in the middle of the Presidium. However, we're way more stylish than him. He just walked through; we took a tank.

"From there, we drove a tank through space, landed in a courtyard, ran up the side of a tower and shot him."

"So, how have you been?"

After all that, "Hi mom. Meet Tali, she's a space gypsy I'm in love with" could not possibly be that big of a shock.

Huh?  ME2 references the origins plenty.  It just doesn't have a side mission like ME1 did.

I wouldn't mind if it was possible to replace Miranda with someone like her. Still 'ice queen' attitude, but at least she seems to be more pleasant person...

Actually considering that only a month passes between ME1s end and the destruction of the Normandy I wouldn't be surprised if Shepard's mom didn't even get the full story from ME1 yet.

SPOILERS.

TIM isn't hiding under every bed in the galaxy.  He had no way of knowing what that guy was going to do.

...I know I'm coming in late; I know you've hashed this out in the hours between...

"TIM didn't know" is irrelevant.  It is his organization and he is responsible for its actions.  When there is misconduct, the chain of command is responsible for taking corrective action.  If it only happened once, it could be written off as an isolated incident.  Cerebus has such a history of atrocities that its chain of command should be tearing the organization apart at the seems, searching for the systemic flaws that make it so prone to disaster.

But it hasn't.  Because TIM doesn't care.  His e-mail after a paragon resolution to the Overlord disaster is hideously amoral.

Deniability is not innocence.

I can see her recovering quickly, but finding out that your son is alive after two years from a third hand source? That has still got to be a punch in the gut.

Especially if Shepard has abit of a temper, like mine does (mm m Renegade Interrupts). Had to get it from somewhere.

Ooh, Luger. She was awesome and so fun to play as with her throwing knife and all that. I wouldn't mind if Miranda was replaced with her. At least Luger would be capable of contributing with more than Miranda.Image IPB

So, let's say... A soldier goes on a killing spree against civilians.

Who is responsible?
1.) Soldier
2.) Guy who recruited him.
3.) Some chap who commands the whole regiment.

If TIM is responsible, what Archer did in Overlord on his own, is just saying that number 3. is the answer.

(Note, I don't intend any offence with the metaphor.)

But when it comes to these kind of situations, it seems like there are no safety precautions to prevent something like this from happening, because it has happened at least three times now. You'd think he'd learn something from all these failures, but apparently not.

What safety precautions you would put in place to stop the head researcher from doing his job? How can you stop people from going rogue, control chips? Explosive neck collars?

Plus, you have to consider, that those few ops are what we know about them. Ascencion? Succesful, but again had betrayal from hired persons.
It's just a "human nature". So if he should have learned something, it's that don't trust others, human or not.

I don't know how we keep coming around to this debate. Cerberus has done great evil, has done good (Shepard). Some people hate TIM, some people think he's alright. It's kind of a dead issue at this point. Good and bad have both occured, your perception if one weighs out the other is all that matters.

Well said. The correct answer, of course, will be what each individual Shepard deems right in ME3.

My Shep's mom is pretty unshakable, so learning that her son is in love with a space gypsy who helped him defeat unspeakable evil wouldn't faze her. Then again, this Hannah Shepard is a proclaimed "war maiden" who has fought against impossible odds and against a variety of threats.

Damn thread, making me want to do my own "Tali meets Shepard's mom" story...
