hmm...if Tali wasn't a romance option in ME2, what would you do? Please avoid silly things like "torch Bioware HQ" or post a picture of Bioware's HQ :?

Wouldn't own the game, so I could care less.

i would play the game, love it, and find some other choice piece of ass for shep to tag, because honestly he really deserves it.

lol yes, now that is a serious answer :D

Keep playing and hope for something in 3. If nothing?

Draw. Write. Something. I don't know.

Would you play it over and over? I know I would. Romance is a big part of the game, so Idk what I'd do if there was none to begin with. I don't particularly LOVE the combat system, but the story is good.

TALI'ZORAH: Yeah, because Miranda is SUCH a great alternative.

hmm... watching colbert report repeats on tv about underground nuclear bunker "cruise ship" things being built and can't help but think Fallout is going to happen. Vivos will inevitably change its name to vaultec

Well, if they had more time and resources they've would've made every game perfect. But that's a fairy tale. Mass Effect 2 is far from perfect, but it's still good. Good enough for us to care about it. As long as they keep that up, I don't care about small details like the same sex romance.

I'd just wait for that moment to happen in ME3.

Or I'd go with another romance, because I honestly became more interested in Tali because she was a romance in ME2. I liked her in the first game, but it wasn't until I made that little discovery I realized that I was more interested in her.

And before someone jumps me with hate, I can guarantee that I'm not alone in thinking like this.

For me, romance wasn't at all the reason I played the game. In my first playthrough I didn't even romance anybody because none of them really appealed to me. I came to Mass Effect because of the moral choices (I love games like that) and because said choices were deeper than "save the baby" or "eat the baby." Romance is a nice touch on the game, but I wouldn't really care if it wasn't in. I like the friendship that Shepard can have with Tali well enough.

I'd still buy the game. On my first playthrough at least, probably romance Jack. I would still love the game. Tali would be my Shepard's BFF.

This is what I would do. I love the contrast between my relationship with Tali/Garrus in ME1 and the relationship in ME2. They're still your most trusted allies, but different in many ways.

Runescapeguy9 wrote...
I never said that. But there is a reason I only have 5 playthroughs of ME1 and 38 of ME2. I suppose noone
else will ever see the games the same way I do. Oh well.

Agreed, but not owning ME3 even though Tali's in it? Wow.

I played the first game thirty times. So yes, I would.

I resolved after about my tenth playthrough, before ME2 was announced that I loved Tali more than anyone in the game. I'd continue playing through the entire trilogy, and if she became romanceable, I'd pick her. Otherwise, it would always be love from afar, and my Shepard would die a broken, lonely man.

I'd have romanced Jack, or stayed with Ashley depending on which playthrough we are talking about.  If Garrus wasn't available, my femshep would be regrettably pining for miss 'I wanna be my mother' (Thane's romance, and the way it starts, bothers me).  My Femship is a total xenophile.  She can't trust human men or women given her past (Earthborn).

I agree. The prospect of romance made her a little more interesting to me. That said, after having played the game and all that jazz, I like the friendship aspect that can also be had and in that regard, it's not a big deal for me at all if she wasn't a romance option or I don't romance her. She's still an interesting character regardless.

Of course the relationship grows and you need that, but nobody would be satisfied either way.  People want moar than what is given, which is understandable of human nature, but not a gamebreaker, like Collider said;

Indeed, I wasn't nearly as enraptured about the ME1 romance as I was the ME1 story. And it was surprising because all I heard about it was the uber sex.

i really only became a talimancer in the leadup to ME2 to the point that only days before it came out i had to push my ME1 Li away in the scene where joker interrupts you. (interestingly ash can be completely disengaged at that point but liara will still cling and show up on the way to illos.)

I didn't find out Tali was a LI in ME 2 until a RL friend told me about it while I was at work.  I ran home, cajoled my roommate into watching it, and ran with it from there.  Until that point, I was romancing Miranda and Jack, mostly to get the dialogue.  I THINK I got further in Miranda's then Jack's.

Then I talked to Tali.  And stopped talking to the others.

Same, but not via background. Damn you roleplayers :P

That sounds strangely appealing; dying broken and lonely. What a dark trilogy it would be

@Collider
Still my favorite character, regardless, I didn't fall in love through the Talindoctrinating powers of this thread, I went all natural-like

I like both Miranda and Jack, but there were a few things that made them less compelling to me.

Miranda had an unexplained personality shift from Cerberus/Lazarus Station to the Normandy. I thought that Miranda on Cerberus Station was far more interesting - at least because that's the first Miranda we are exposed to. On the Normandy, I found her less interesting because suddenly instead of that intriguing coldness and jealousy she was warm and friendly and actually didn't mind talking. It's as if she had switched her souls with someone else. Not particularly good writing there (the shift).

Jack's trailer made her seem like she was going to be a lot more fun and over the top. Someone with a bombastic and playful personality and therefore particularly enjoyable to talk to. I thought those elements were appealing.

Instead, Jack turned out to be yes, still aggressive, but melancholy, deeply antisocial and misanthropist. Her recalled exploits of piracy, vandalism, rioting seemed wonderfully audacious, but all that energy in the trailer seemed to have not translated into the game.

When I started ME2, I already knew Tali was a romance, but I hadn't seen all the scenes.
The moment I heard about her was the same moment I became really interested in her, because I honestly did not see the romance thing coming, and I was curious.

And then I decided to play ME1 again to max out the import bonuses for one of my Sheps, and that's when I couldn't stop looking at her or talking to her. I guess something sparked.

Maybe, but I'd rather she had stayed an **** instead of turning into a different person for no reason.

i wasn't so much trying to counter your point as to show more evidence of her personality shift.

snp

I see what you mean. A good example is the way the trailer was made it seem like she jumped on Shepard after "He knows what he wants, so do I", rather than what we experience in "if you want sex, why don't you just f*ckin say so".

Actually in game it seemed she was generally passive, like my Shepard was thinking "we have a pretty shallow alliance right here, and she's not even trying to kill anyone". I was worried for Tali and Donnelly/Gabby, but she didn't give me worry after a few conversations. It made her more intriguing, but then, a much more hostile Jack was what I was expecting.

And we've discussed Miranda, I need to replay and see the change myself, see if there's a catalyst.
