I'm blaming for the game mechanics. Althought, it makes sense not to carry other weapons you have no proper training to use them. But the magnetic clasps can still hold backpacks or looted weapons.

She is a quarian, she has pockets every where in her suit. I'd love to check all her pockets out for illegal stuff...

Hypothetical question, not sure if this'll happen or been asked, but if Mass Effect 2/3 ever gets the option for a co-op mode whereby you can take control of Tali in combat would you rather play as her or Shepard?
