Presenting Part 1 of "Mass Effect: Grand Escapades".  In this installment, Tali pitches the idea of setting up a tabletop roleplaying game with Shepard.

Sitting at the far end of a messhall table, Tali's thin fingers hopscotched over her datapad.  So absorbed in her work she was that she yelped when Shepard's voice said, "What're you working on?"

"Nothing," Tali said, sliding her hand over the datapad's screen.

Shepard sat down across from her with a metal tray full of bland looking food.  "Don't lie to me, Tali.  You're hiding something secret from me.  I'll find out what it is one way or another.  Grunt can find a needle in a haystack if I tell him he gets a Tupari out of it."

"Shepard, if I was working on anything dangerous, I would tell you," Tali said.  "This is kind of...personal."

"Are you in trouble?" Shepard asked, arching a red eyebrow.

"No, nothing like that," Tali said.  She removed her hand from her datapad, looked down at its contents.  "Just something I'm doing for fun now that we have some free time after destroying the Collector base.  You wouldn't like it, so don't worry about it."

"Now hold on."  Shepard leaned on the table while holding up a work-worn hand.  "I always say you should try something at least once or you could miss out on something new.  If someone didn't man up and try playing with a varren's genitals, he would've missed out on discovering scale itch."

The quarian ran her free hand over her opposite arm.  "Well...have you ever played one of those tabletop role-playing games?  I played them all the time on the flotilla growing up.  In them, you have to work together with your friends to defeat enemies and find treasure.  Quarians love them because they encourage social activity."

Shepard asked, "Don't you wear black leather and chain people to the wall in those games?"

"...no, that's a different game."

"Good.  I used to date a woman who kept asking me to play that with her.  She smelled like the purple drink you can buy at the Dark Star."  Shepard stuck a fork into the white mound Gardner called "mashed potatoes".  "I'll give it a try.  Let me clear some space in my schedule first."

Tali's metal-wrapped chin perked up.  "Actually, Shepard, these kind of games work best with a big group.  I was thinking...if you could get some of the crew to play with us, then the game would be even more fun.  I know it might not be everyone's favorite game, but I'm sure they'd be willing to try at least once.  Especially if you convinced them to."

"Okay."

"Really?"

Shepard cracked a rare smile.  "Sure.  We need to cool down anyway.  Might as well have some fun."

Tali's eyes twinkled.  "Thank you, Shepard."  She slid out of her chair and stood.  "I should get to work, then.  This game takes some preparation, and I want everyone to be able to play immediately after we begin."

"Let me know when you're ready and we can schedule the game," Shepard said.  "Keep it short, though.  We still need to stay alert.  I don't want to get captured by the Collectors again because we were busy telling Mordin to go fish and hearing him talk about why he shouldn't."

"I won't."  The quarian swirled around the table and passed by Shepard, drawing her hand across the back of his neck with a sensual flair.  "Thank you, Shepard.  It'll be fun.  I promise."

Shepard watched Tali leave, swishing her hips in that way she knew he liked.  His smile now plastered on his face, he pulled up a glob of mashed potatoes and slid it into his mouth.

"How do you like the food, Shepard?" Gardner called from his spot at the food preparation counter.

"These potatoes are better than they used to be," Shepard said.

Gardner smiled.  "Changed spices!  That varren sweat's got some kick, don't it?"

And because Gardner said this just as Shepard was swallowing the potatoes, Shepard had to wait a few moments before his body allowed him to use all those mean words he had built up.

Garrus: You're the Captain, and you let your engineer kick you out of the CAPTAIN'S Quarters... this is definately YOUR fault.<_<

Shepard: Shaddup. That girl has dissected a geth's brain with her knife before. She's ****ing scary. And how do you sleep in all that armor?

Garrus: Turians almost never take off their armor, Shepard. Plus, we have built in nerve stimulators, for those long deployments on the Fleet.

Garrus: What?

Shepard: What's that humming sound?

Garrus: ... I haven't slept with a woman in nearly eight years. What do you think?

Shepard:... Yeah... I'm gonna go see if Mordin has any room in his bunk... *Leaves*

I would have more imagined him with his rifle.

Garrus probably breaks those things on a fairly regular basis.

He's constantly get hit, shot at, and blown the hell up.
