You along with said people take this idea under the notion that ME2 will be the end for Jack, which is yet to be proven true.
That's quite false. I do not assume that to be true, nor did I write under that falsity.
I do however, extol the positives of having the relationship within a single game develop noticeably (for those new characters) without having to romance a character. A fine example of this would be with Grunt - at first, Grunt and Shepard are clear enemies. Then Grunt begins to respect Shepard, and eventually he regards Shepard as his Battlemaster.
It's clear that with Aresh and after blowing up the Pragia Facility, Jack is on the
edge of being bettered, but nothing actually really results in the game itself. Dealing with Aresh was supposed to help Jack get rid of the shackles of her past, but she attacks Miranda over words all the same.
If shown kindness and patience; Jack actually does lighten up, not telling Shepard to ****** off being one way to tell.
That's a good point - regarding not being told in such severe words to go away. But I still did not feel the change was significant enough. A great way to have alleviated this would have been for Jack's platonic conversations not to end with "go away" (as they do), but instead with an indication that Jack is thinking about what Shepard has said and what Shepard has done for her. Jack's "in the middle of calibrations" would be her telling Shepard that she's still thinking and that she needs time to mull everything over. That would result in a markedly better feel that we had caused a change in Jack or that she is on that road. It would also provide a much smoother and plausible transition to ME3 should Jack warm up to Shepard (if Shepard was kind to her).
If you treat her poorly, siding with Miranda or having a fling with her, you have proven her views on people to be true, thus she closes herself off again, to Shepard.
Heh, had I been doing that (and not being "nice" to her), I wouldn't now be discussing how I felt the platonic relationship with Jack could have been better, because it stands to reason that treating a character poorly would result in said character having a poor opinion of the player character.
I see Jack actually opening up as the game progresses, and while we may not see a clear acceptance towards Shepard unless romance, I still feel that she actually begins towards this. If Jack returns in ME3 as a full-character as we all hope for most of the other characters, I believe she will become more accepting over the course of her developement.
I hope so.
