I seriously doubt anyone here really expects Xen to be a squadmate.

She's an interesting and intriguing character.

That's it.

And she's only as popular here as she is because of her voice actor and how much Jones and I have flashed our story around.

No way in hell Xen is a squadmate. Enemy or Ally, for sure. Not squadmate.

I don't actually hate Xen, but you may understand why the focus on her (and in certain ways) may feel exasperating to certain people when it feels that this thread is not about Tali but about Xen and certain projections unto her that are best left unprofessed. I feel, perhaps a fan group for this lovely space morrigan character may be in order.

That was the one thing I wish all of the other romances has too... was them talking about Shepard, developing the player character a bit. On that much, we definately agree.

We've heard Tali talk about herself. Now it's Shepard's turn. In ME3. Would be even better if the dialogues depended on the different backgrounds for Shepard.

I agree. Shepard needs to stop being the action hero with no problems.

For Jack, a shotgun that does more damage against organics as well as nonarmored targets.
For Garrus, the same but with a sniper rifle.
Zaeed would have his own assault rifle, with extra damage against armor.
Miranda a submachine gun with better accuracy and more damage against shields.
Mordin a submachine gun better against organics and unarmored targets.
Thane's would be a sniper rifle with more accuracy and firing range.
Jacob gets a shotgun that shoots the priiize

I don't think I can convince Jacob to do a Kurt Cobain.

Wouldn't hurt to try, though.

Jacob's not really that bad if he's not romanced. He's a good "bro" character, even if Garrus fits that role a bit better.

If he is romanced, you get to see all of the ugly underneath. He has some serious problems regarding baggage. He's quite insecure. He doesn't seem to like Garrus & Thane very much. That said, there were also some really great things about his romance. But of course, the negatives overshadow the good.

One of good things about his romance was that he asked how Shepard was. Instead of being action hero with absolutely no issues, Shepard could vent about feeling burdened, lonely, or suffering from survivor's guilt. The other romances could do well from that sort of thing - including Tali's.

That was the one thing I wish all of the other romances has too... was them talking about Shepard, developing the player character a bit. On that much, we definately agree.

I would like to hear Tali ask how Shepard is. That would be quite sweet.

Would've started a thread for Xen...

But really... could you imagine the reaction? That would be like that Velarn Thread. It would be troll city.

The only real reason why Velarn's thread is "troll city" is because he has a meme associated with him. Similar to how the Jacob thread was once alternations between "heavy risk" and "the priiize" over and over again. Xen does not have such things, she is not regarded as a joke character. Make one and I guarantee you it would work.

I can't really see a point in the game where he indicates that he has no problems. He has just decided to keep them hidden from the rest of the world, because in some cases, it would affect his image as a leader and commander.

Doesn't need to have Xen Memes. Morrigan. Tis Cold in my Tent, anyone? If I honestly thought it had a chance of being something more than meme or spam central, I'd have started it a month ago.

I have looked at the Morrigan thread on this forum. Virtually all of the recent stuff are intelligent discussions. No memes in sight. I doubt that will be different for Xen.

Xen isn't Morrigan. She doesn't have enough supporters to keep the trolls outnumbered. Besides, if we made another thread for Xen, people who like her and Tali would need to jump back and forth, and it would further divde the base. I'd rather that not happen. If someone doesn't want to talk about Xen, by all means, start a topic about Tali. I'll gladly get in on the conversation. It's not like I'm trying turn this INTO the Xen thread. Just, interesting discussion for when the Tali well is a bit on the dry side. Given the option, I'll usually talk about Tali before Xen.

The whole point of Shepard is to project what you want on him.  One person's Shep is concealing his problems, another can be Mr. Perfect, and another can have these problems, maybe discuss them with people off screen.  Its all about how you interpret it.  I'm for as little Bioware shaping Shepard as possible.  He's my character, and I don't need Bioware deciding that he has daddy issues or something.

I don't know understand why it is thought that the trolls would be attracted to the thread. Shiala has very few supporters yet her thread isn't plagued by trolls to any degree.

Besides, if we made another thread for Xen, people who like her and Tali would need to jump back and forth, and it would further divde the base. I'd rather that not happen.

That doesn't make sense. If they are posting in both threads, then that is not dividing the base, that is people also posting in other threads (which many of us already do). Making a Xen topic would simply provide a place to discuss the character without going off-topic here.

If someone doesn't want to talk about Xen, by all means, start a topic about Tali. I'll gladly get in on the conversation. It's not like I'm trying turn this INTO the Xen thread.

Xen comes up invariably every day, so for some it really does feel like you are doing so.

I don't see the harm in starting a new topic. At the worst, if things do not turn out as planned, you ask a moderator to lock the thread. Problem solved. Alternatively, you can start a group in which case the illusionary problems of trolls are nonexistent.

Something similar to Shepard being able to choose what issues he has (or electing that he has none, or does not want to disclose them) would be fine, in my opinion. Did you have issues with the locker scene in ME1?

Would be nice if they gave us the option to give him those kind of problems, though. That's pretty much why I cared about picking backgrounds. I want Shepard himself to show that he is a Spacer/War Hero, for example, and not some news reports or a psyche profile.

I want it to be more than just text on a resume. Otherwise, there's almost no point in choosing backgrounds.

And I know that I should make up those kind of scenarios, like how he fought the batarians on Elysium, but...I want it to be shown in a good way in the game, so other characters and himself can go more deeply into it.

And not everyone wants to do that "Think up your Shepard's background story" thing.

*shrug*

I have no intentions of starting a Xen Thread. I'm sorry. I just don't see how it would work. If you want to, by all means, be my guest. As for a group, I have no interest in those, to tell you the truth. The only time I really go off on a Xen tangent is when Jones and I are working on Reckoning, or when she gets brought of up in conversation, which isn't even always my doing. I also don't see you complaining about the numerous times we go off about Cerberus, Miranda, TIM, Jacob, and damn near every other character. If it makes you feel better, I just won't say anything here anymore about her. Ever. Problem solved.

With that. I'm out. It's late, and I'm tired, and tomorrow promises to be a long day.

That seems to be getting to the point of game limitations to me.  Bioware can't let you canonically see everything that there is with Shepard.  Its up to you to decide what cereal he likes.  I can't see how they could possibly implement a conversation where Shep could either be Mr. Perfect, or be a troubled badass who holds it all in, without directly talking to the player in a convoluted manner.  I'm fine with having this stuff happen offscreen personally.  If I want Shep to confide his problems in Tali, then it happened.

As far as the locker scene, I haven't seen it in a long time, but I hardly saw that as Bioware deciding anything for Shep.  It was just a basic reaction to what was going on, it could be taken plenty of ways.

I think a good way to flesh Shepard out a bit and make him feel more of an organic and believable character would be the chance to play through our psych profiles and backgrounds.

And not everyone wants to do that "Think up your Shepard's background story" thing.

Exactly. I could easily just make a universe in my end if I wanted to.
