I'll be damned to hell for the second time if I let this happen, Shepard thought to himself as he listened to the admirals over the speaker as he and Tali returned to the fleet. Sharing a glance with his companions, he sped up and punched the interface on the door.
Not waiting for it to open completely, he stormed into the meeting square. The quarians near the door who saw his entrance murmured to each other and a path quickly opened. None would stand before him; the commander's biotic field was flickering around him erratically as he rushed to the admiralty board.
Tali and Garrus shared a glance. It was unusual for Shepard to get this worked up. They reached the square, and Shepard stalked up to the podium. Tali matched his stride and walked with him up to the podium as Garrus took a seat on the stairs to watch the fireworks.
"Sorry we're late...."

"Have you seen him this worked up before?" She asked the turian after the trial. Shepard was up in the cockpit of the shuttle, discussing something with Miranda as they returned to the
Normandy.
Garrus nodded. "Once or twice. Remember when you got knocked unconscious by a pirate sniper on Klensal? When we were approaching the pirate base?"
"Yes, I remember getting hit, then waking up in the infirmary."
"Well, you missed all of the fun on the ground," he stated with more than a touch of sarcasm. "Shepard evac'd you, then brought me and Wrex back down to the planet. During the drop, his biotics were flickering like that."
Garrus paused, before continuing, "When we got to the base, he used the Mako to take out the towers. Then, he blew the doors to the base open." Tali's eyes widened; that was overkill, and something she couldn't picture her commander doing. The turian wasn't done with his story though.
"Shepard told me to snip anyone that was disabled," Garrus said with a chuckle. "Then he and Wrex ran in, and used their biotics to lift or knock down every single mercenary they saw. It was a shooting gallery for me."
Tali shook her head. "That was reckless."
"You have no idea," the turian agreed. "Shepard just stood there, out in the open. It was surreal; I think the pirates were actually more afraid of
him than they were of the krogan. He didn't calm down until all the merc's were dead."
"After we got back, he checked on you after setting a course for the other location that human on the Citadel told him about. Once Chakwas told him you were ok, he calmed down," Garrus finished.
"Really?" She asked. The turian nodded. "I remember I was surprised when he took Ashley and Wrex with him instead of anyone else."
"Well, I was exhausted," Garrus replied. "That, and he told me to keep an eye on you." He nodded an affirmation when the quarian just stared at him.
Her gaze turned to the cockpit speculatively.
He cared that much, even back then? she thought to herself.
I should tell him...no, stop being selfish, she reprimanded herself.
It was just the same concern he gave everyone...But try as she might, a small flicker of warmth erupted in her chest. Her commander cared; truly cared. It might have been an unrealistic dream, but Tali spent the rest of the trip thinking on her commander, and everything she longed to tell him but did not dare speak.
If only...------------
