I liked Samara well enough, but I cannot say "stoic paladin/warrior monk" makes for the most compelling characters (of course, anyone who disagrees is fine). It contributes to the feel of having recruited many different kinds of people though.

Most characters of that type are not also grieving mothers.  But I know I put too much emphasis on parenting and kids and whatever, so YMMV.

I have yet to meet an asari character I really like.

I liked Aria.

Especially in her comic.

Four pages is all it takes to make Aria a bonafide badass.

The voice acting just didn't sell me.  "I Am Omega!"  Not if delivered like that...

I did like the mini-comic though.  Gives her a sense of authority and power you didn't see in the game.

Part of the reason why I liked Aria was that I was  not reminded of the Asari problem of always been sexualized with her. She was just a strong mob boss who had omega by the throat.

Aria was in that picture?

I'm not so sure. I was too busy looking at that wonderful thing sitting on the couch with a belly I would gladly drink shots out of.

I actually really like Samara. I just wish MORE asari were as badass and philosphical as she is. Not so big on the cleavage... but I definately like her personality. I wouldn't mind sitting down and just discussing some deep, meaningful **** with her.

She'd probably irritate me half to death with her asari wisdom, but it would still be cool.

The Asari are one of my criticisms with Mass Effect lore.

Too humanoid?  Or is it all the other wackiness with them?

Too humanoid, yes.
Also:asarisuesnip*
[*]So in a way, it feels like the Asari are Mary Sues in space. That's not really compelling for me.

Completely agree with this, then there's the fact that they get every gift possible, and yet they're still not in the top 5 of most useful races when the reapers come.  Talk about sucking as a race <_<

Point - but she was still rather stoic about it. I found Sten to be a good use of the "stoic" character. Samara wasn't bad, but she didn't feel particularly interesting to me. It also felt that she trusted Shepard way too quickly and way too fast. As you said, YMMV.

Their largest dreadnought couldn't even fight off a few geth ships.

But that's not a problem. I think of them as cannonfodder, anyway.

Whoa, we gotta part ways there.  Sten bored me to death.  He was everything that is wrong about stoicism and fatalism.

I also liked Aethyta, but she was just a kind of interesting NPC. As always though, Aethyta for Normandy bartender.

That was her name (horrible with names) also did not know that it was Claudia Black as VA. I shall make a point to listen better next time I visit!

Upper left blue solves everything.

Failing that, I'll shoot her shins off, slit her throat, and toss her off a cliff.

I'll feel bad about it.

Then I'll get over it.

Can't you just shoot her in the head and spare her the pain? :(

Screw you guys, I'm going to play Mass Effect 2.

It has been three months since I last touched it. I even dowloaded Overlord, though I intend to play it on one of my epilogues.

Have fun, I know I will.

Though she did come to power by using an army of prostitutes to make the krogan army change sides IIRC :?

It's Rip.  He doesn't do "sparing."  Feel lucky Xen won't get the Miranda or Jacob treatment.

Yea, but she's the best we've got in avoiding sexualization for the Asari tbh (besides minor NPCs)

Writing about Xen has been awesome.

I still don't tolerate slavers, which is essentially what she is. Unless she gives me some DAMN good reasons not to, I'm going to kill her, slowly if possible, like Balak.

Now... if she, by some freak of nature madness introduced herself as Daro'Xen vas Moreh nar Khalos, I'd take pity on her.
