You must merely replay ME2 repeatedly until ME3 is released.  This will increase both your Epicness and D'aaaaw!!! tolerances to the necessary levels.

It would be theoretically possible for the evidence to be obtained in some other way (Shadow Broker?), but it would be a different story, just as if Miranda or Kiara were absent, though Tali's role is far smaller than those two. Like Garrus, she has no real plot function once she's recruited. I expect that to be remedied in ME3 by making her key to getting the best ending to the quarian/geth problem.

The most important squadmates in term of story are Liara, Mordin and Miri, IMO.

ME1's plot seemed to hinge on such a fragile time frame that the galaxy may have been ultimately lost if it weren't for a few characters.  Tali is one of them, though my favorite is Powell.  If it wasn't for that lazy criminal, we would have never known that Saren was behind it, we would have never looked for Tali, and Saren would have succeeded

The eye witness who saw Saren kill Nihlus.  He's just a random small time dock worker involved in a smuggling ring who happens to be in the right place at the right time.  At the very least he's responsible for us saving Tali, so I've got no problem with him
