The vidscreen slowly flickered to life, its harsh glow forcing Shepard to shield his eyes as the screen slowly became something other than static.  As his eyes adjusted, the human Spectre could just make a face, but the blue eyes were unmistakable.

"Illusive Man."  Shepard growled, his hands tightening into fists.  "Where is she?"

Smiling, the Illusive Man waited until the last of the static dissapeared before answering.  His tone matched his smirk.  "Right here."

Stepping aside, the well-clothed human revealed the a figure behind him.  She was unconcious, her head drooped, but Shepard would have recognized her suit anywhere.  Tali.  She was bound to a post, thin chains keeping her upright despite her state.

Returning into view, the Illusive Man ignited his omnitool, its orange glow filling the screen as he lifted it into view.  "I have here her suits Master Controls."  The Man said.  "You continue to follow my orders, you avoid any more mistakes such as destroying that Collector Base, and I won't turn off her helmets filters.  You do as I say, and she doesn't die a fever-wracked death...."

The Illusive Man frowned as his omnitool flickered.  Several of the monitors in the room followed, then in the background, Tali's left arm lit up as hers activated.  The would-be tyrant scowled as he realized what was happening.  "EDI..." he began, pausing to form an effective threat to re-establish a stalemate.  His face suddenly dropped in alarm and he spun around, collapsing before he finished his first step toward the door.

A blue orb appeared in the holo-chamber.  "Tali is safe, Commander,"  EDI reported, realizing this was foremost on his mind.  "I have sealed her suit and evacuated the atmosphere from most of the station.  She has internal oxygen for one hour.  I have placed the facility in lock-down, and the Geth are infiltrating security systems so they can appropriate mechs to assist."

Shepard took a moment to regain his composure and focused on the task at hand.  "THANK you, EDI.  What's the situation?"

"Tali is still unconscious.  85% of station personnel are disabled.  A portion of the station's security personnel were suited and are gearing up, but are unaware of the nature of their emergency.  I am triggering multiple alarms and sending false data to misdirect them.  Disabled personnel will begin suffering brain death in one minute.  Shall I restore life support?"

Shepard paused, torn between safeguarding Tali and callously letting scores of people die.  He sure as HELL didn't want The Illusive Man back on his feet to threaten his love before she could get out of there.  "How soon will they start waking up?" he asked.  "Recovery will vary, but I can keep most unconscious by providing only partial air pressure."  "PERFECT.  Do it, EDI," he replied, relieved to have a solution to the dilemma.  "Atmosphere restored," she replied.

"The Geth are remotely controlling several squads of Loki mechs and are making their way to The Illusive Man's office.  Several YMIRs are securing the shuttle bay.  No resistance at present."

... and the game is afoot!

Or you could have let the story fade away. That was always an option.

Sounds good.

But I wouldn't mind a little bloodshed. They are inside a Cerberus facility after all. Tearing things apart from the inside is a daily occurance for them.Image IPB

So, I finally got around to seeing Tali's romance scene on Youtube. Her romance really isn't my thing, but I did like the way she talks about people only seeing the helmet so she has to make things clear. Been there done that. Shep wordlessly answering by removing her mask is perfect. I also think they made the right choice to cut away when they did. I don't need to see the gory details. If I had to verbalize my reaction to the romance, I'd say it was a type of romance I don't like executed fairly well.

Just finished Tali's loyalty mission again, and I'm surprised to see that there's still new dialog to be found.

I've run through the game about 50 times and it still feels brand new.

I think my own playthroughs are maybe at a dozen, but I ran the suicide mission about 200 times.

I usually stick with what's safe.

Getting ideas on that kind of mission can end up badly.

Especially with Shepard who likes to just spit out what he thinks without a second thought of how the world around him is going to react to it.

The "girl has unrequited crush on guy for years and he finally notices" type. The girl (in general, Tali is a good bit better about this) tends to come off as a bit pathetic and the guy has most of the power in the relationship. I always wonder why the don't move on or at least get to do really impressive things to prove theor love. Knights in love with a princess get to slay dragons to impress her. Princesses in love with knights wait around for the knight to notice.

This is why I prefer to believe the actual romance started in ME2, rather than ME1.
