I wonder what I ever did before I had the Locust, really.
Suffered mostly.

"Scars are a funny thing," Jack said from her place at the bar. Her turian and human companions turned to the biotic.
She pointed at Garrus, then over to Shepard. "All of us ****ers have'em. And they tell stories. And your new one has a real good story behind it commander."
"Yeah, I guess it does," He said with a soft sigh, looking down at is hand. The new cybernetics were glowing in the light of the
Normandy's small lounge.
It was a few hours after he had been released from the med-bay. He, Garrus and Jack were at the bar, while Tali and Kasumi sat on the couch talking softly.
"I hope the Council appreciates it," Garrus rumbled as he drank from his dextro friendly liquor.
"Even if they don't, at least now we have the proof we need to get the ball rolling," Shepard said, with a frown. "Can't play dumb this time." All three raised their glasses and drank.
Kasumi watched them, and turned back to her friend. "So what did happen? I saw the commander get dragged in by Garrus and you. If he hadn't been bleeding so bad, the way you were hovering around him and fretting would have been cute."
"Bosh'tet," Tali said halfheartedly. "We found the prothean data we needed. After looking it over, John thought he could bring it with us since it had a working VI."
Tali dropped her gaze. "Since I couldn't work on the VI without the cypher, he had to do it. And he tripped it's security," she said with a rueful laugh."
"Trust a man to make a mess of things," Kasumi said lightly. Tali giggle in response.
"Well, it looks like there were a bunch of klixen the protheans had set up as guardians," Tali continued. We were doing fine, but one decided to spit at the VI after the VI started letting out a tone mimicking the klixen's sounds. Shepard was closest."
The quarian wrapped her arms around her legs as she looked over at her captain. "He just reacted. Stuck his hand out to block it. It ate right through his armor. Then his tech armor exploded, and it took most of his hand with it."
Kasumi's eyes widened. She looked over at the commander. His hand
looked ok now. Tali only nodded.
"Dr. Chakwas repaired it. She does good work," Tali said, choking back a sob. "At least he still has it. Excuse me."
Tali stood and walked over to her commander. she took his hand and pulled him to his feet before leading him out of the bar, to the elevator. While they were waiting, she wrapped her arms around his side and just held him.
It was disconcerting that he only returned the hug with one hand and arm. The one that hadn't gotten injured. She frowned, even as she understood why he was reacting like that.
In silence, the duo traveled to their cabin. They waited patiently while the loft's decontamination unit operated. Tali lead him into the cabin, and down to the couch. She gestured for him to sit. As he sat, she reached up and removed her mask. With a hiss, she was looking at him with her own eyes.
She walked up and sat next to him. She reached for his repaired hand, and the commander flinched it away from her. Frowning, she grabbed a firm hold of it, and studied the work.
"I am glad you didn't lose your hand," she finally said to the darkness.
Shepard scowled. "Didn't I though?" He stared at the hand. He looked up when he heard the snaps from Tali's suit. As he watched, she removed the gloves, and one of the sleeves.
Again Tali grasped his hand, palm up this time. She put a scarred, three fingered hand in his upturned palm. "We all have scars John," she said softly. "Did I ever tell you how I got these scars?"
He studied the old injury intently. Finally, he wrapped his fingers around hers and looked into her eyes. He could see an old pain there. "No, you didn't."
"It all started at
Ekuna..."
