I think its unreasonable to assume that all batarians are dicks. Its just likely most of the ones we see will be dicks, simply because most of them are mercenaries and privateers profitting off peoples suffering in Citadel space and not well-to-do sorts..
You figure most batarians who are just fine with keeping to themselves and not starting trouble, are staying in 'batarian space', especially since they're probably looked at more distrustfully than quarians.

Batarians never really get a chance to make a case for themselves.
I don't think I've seen a batarian that wasn't a slaver, merc, terrorist, or thug of some sort.
And their faces are some of the most goofy/annoying ones. 

While I don't hate Batarians, I won't trust them the slightest bit until they give me a damn good reason.

There's the guy dying of the plague that you can save.

I've said this before, but it seems like it's okay even for paragons to hate batarians. Think of what they tried to do to Elysium in the War Hero background.

That's why I noted in-game. Apparently many batarian civillians are stranded on their own homeworld, because their government does not allow them to leave due to xenophobia. The only ones that ever do leave are often criminals and mercenaries, all of which you fight.

Touche...but quarians haven't done so much to earn that distrust and hate.

Also, I'll try and remember that about the species names.  I hate making mistakes like that.
