I know I've told this story, but after finding out that Tali was CANNOT HAVE in ME1, my second attempt was with Dr. Chakwas. I have a thing for voices and make no apologies, she's hot. Wants to cure wounded soldiers with piercing eyes and sensitive souls? Sign me the f*ck up! Paragon Shepard was made for this.

Having a drink with her was a damn pleasent suprise in Mass Effect 2. Admittantly, when I say "what could've been" in that instance, I'm thinking of a possible outcome to that scene. I'll leave it to your imagination.

The one month or so that we don't see between ME1 and the start of ME2 is a large variable as well.  That's the time when the relationship would have grown the most, and we see none of it.  I believe that Bioware's intention was to have people piece together that time however they wanted personally, and I can see Shep and Tali becoming even closer.  If you take it as the face value of all the characters being in stasis for that month, its another point against it.

The actual romance was hardly fan service though, I'm sure they had it planned all along.  Just makes too much sense.

Bioware planned to put a Talimance in Mass1, but the thought than nobody would "Like a girl with chicken feet" so they scrapped it... how wrong they were...
