Chakwas is like romancing Wynne in Dragon Age. Both of them could be your grandmother.
What, and romancing an alien is less disgusting than romancing an old women?
Different strokes for different folks. Let's not argue.
P.S: I'd do Chakwas.
Not saying I hate Tali, quite the opposite. Just pointing out a hole in the logic... probably a bit to bluntly.
How is "aliens are gross" logic? Even more so on this thread?

I actually believe that's one of the bigger loads of crap that Bioware has put out there personally. For one, its way too small of a reason to expect a large group of people to dislike her, and even thinking that she would be a less popular LI didn't stop them from adding ones they thought would be less popular in ME2.
There are several real reasons they wouldn't have added her though. Her purpose in ME1 was more codex related, introduce you to the geth and quarians. She couldn't do that, develop an interest in Shep, and find a way around the quarian immune system in three conversations. On top of that, they didn't have room for another LI. Liara fit the maleShep alien LI slot perfectly, and the only possible way to balance out the LIs would have been make Liara femShep only (since there are no other options for femShep really.)

Oh, I've decided a long time ago. More like fifteen minutes though. Right there in that absurdly well lit Med-bay, in front of a window and everything.
That neither being here nor there, i've got to get to sleep. I'll see... maybe some of you in the morning. Goodnight!

The thing that people find weird about screwing old people, or being gay (not a homophobe, just making a point) is that they differ from the norm. I assume alien sex differs from what is considered normal, thats why its weird. I mean, if some people get creeped out by gay relationships, you can only imagine how they would see an alien one.
Not that im against a bit of xenophillia once in a while, although i would prefer to keep it in video games...

Looks interesting. Love the twist on the names and the backgrounds, Rael and Talia's last name's are different, tho.

On an aside, the "chicken feet" comment was made AFTER Bioware saw the fandom.
This I am 65% sure of.

Possible, but Liara was a much more obvious choice for that role, considering the game's constant flaunting of asari sexuality in your face.

While this is true, I loathe the fact that it's such a shared belief.
Her conversations came off much more personal than the other squadmate's.
She talks about how she feels, her parents, her aspirations, what's expected of her and how that impacts her...
She really does put herself out there.
At least, that's what I get out of it.

Even though you're generally correct, it really doesn't make sense when the alien happens looks like this.

Don't forget that asari can do almost anything and get away with it.
Just take a look at Illium. Slaves, smuggling of red sand, extortions and random killing.

I agree, though a lot of that stuff can fall under normal character development that Bioware tried to get into all of the characters, and since its not unique to Tali, I didn't mention it. All characters received some development, but only Tali had to explain the main enemy race, and another completely mysterious race on top of that.
Although I'm obviously biased, I saw a ton of interesting things in her dialogue, some that you mention, other stuff as well about how she becomes increasingly comfortable on the ship, being away from the flotilla and being around Shep in general.

True. It could fall under the umbrella of simple character development, but I think her's was much more well-executed than, say, Liara or Kaidan.
