It will be jarring indeed...jarring if the relationship is not addressed (at least if you bring your ME2 LI along) and more so if the relationship is discussed yet Shepard is not able to express that he or she wants things to end. I still want squad banter, but taking into account all of these things, it does not seem likely.

I'm questioning if it will be a squad outing in the sense we're used to. It would be just Liara (like the just Kasumi mission). Or it could be that Liara will be the bystander and just show up in cutscenes.

She is the Only character who can't be killed otherwise... and her dying at the end of this mission would just be poetic... as a possible ending... showing that even non-squad characters can die off in the middle of the story.

In an interview during a part where they were talking about character DLC (one that expands Shepard's relationships with them or something), they showed a clip of Ashley. So I don't think all is lost for them to get there Ashley/Kaidan dlc thing. I will say, some of the Liara fans in their thread...scary (they are of course, a minority).
