Is exactly what I always imagined her thinking, especially after she openly says the whole trial's a sham and that Tali couldn't have possibly done such a thing, unless she was a complete and utter idiot.

Yeah, Thane mentions once that the poison they can give out through their tentacles is enough to kill any other sapient being.
Unfortunately, they don't move very fast above water, nor are they able to carry long-distance weapons very easily.
