100 cpu usage...probably relates to many of the pc crash issues.

I see many posts on here from nvidia. and ati users claiming driver issues, which can also be the case. I urge everyone however to enable some type of system monitoring tool to see your cpu usage during dragon age. The easiest is obviously the widgets on vista and 7, but in xp you can always ctrl-alt-del with dragon age minimized and look to see if dragonage.exe is taking up 98-100 cpu usage in your system processes.

I can't help but think alot of systems are simply crashing to the cpu being strained to the highest, and alot of these people may have never had thier cpu taxed as such, and thier cooling may not be sufficient for whatever reason.

With that said I'd also love an answer from Bioware as to why some people like myself, are experiencing 100% cpu usage while others don't seem to be.

My specs are

E6400 core2
Vista 32
5850 Ati Card with current drivers.
Store bought version of dragon age and it's patched to 1.01.

I have used the console to play around, just incase that could also be relevant. Loading the game without the console however still causes 100% cpu usage.

I also have no issues whatsoever so far running the game, I run at full load but it runs great, I just feel the need to bring this to Biowares attention since it's not something you typically see in a game, running at full usage even while alt tabbed.

If you want to throttle it down you can use that program to do so. It should work fine, but I can't test it as my game doesn't have that problem. It's an external solution, but it should work for the time being.

Same here 100%, but whats funny is when I only have the game run on one core it only uses 50% of that one core......Yeah I'm pretty sure this has to do with alot of peoples crashes.

Try taking a look at the link above; it doesn't exactly relate to the 100% CPU usage, but you may find some valuable information.

Sigh.. a 100% cpu load is not really an issue per se, only if your hardware is not in proper working order will it cause issues. Games are generally based off an infinite loop of game logic that is ran repeatedly, you can set this loop to run at a specific rate, usually called a frame rate or tick rate. You can also setup your game engine to run as fast as possible. While this can/does run unnessessary code more then it might need to, but the upsde is that processes like AI can 'think' faster or in more depth with multiple itterations.

You could raise the question that the game is using too much CPU time on things it might not need to, but it is hardly a 'problem' unless is causes the came to behave differently on CPU's that excecute code at different rates. I would assume any game programmer working professionally is well aware of how these effects interact and it would be rare for any issues to be present.
