So, I've lost my manual (and with it, my cd key), just after building a new computer. I registered my cd key to this account, so I was hoping I'd be able to recover my key like I could on the old forums.
Sorry if this has been asked before - I did a quick search, and nothing came up.

You can look it up in the game tab of the MassEffect2Config.exe file in the \\Mass Effect 2\\Binaries\\ folder. Do you still have to old hard drive to look it up?

Doesn't look like it, unfortunately - I copied the stuff that was in my Documents folder, but nothing else. I have all my saves, but can't play them.
One of my friends has a key - could I use that to install, then login using my own Cerberus account?
EDIT: Is that allowed?

You should try the MassEffect2Config.exe in any case, maybe the key is stored in the my Documents folder.
Using someone else's key would probably just flag your install as pirated :-(
Do you still have a proof of purchase? I think EA can give you a new valid key then.
The mos painless method would be just using a keygen/crack ;-)

Alright, now that I've found my key through a complicated process of restoring files, I've discovered that my disc is scratched - don't know how, or why. A bit annoying really, as it was a collectors edition disc.
My question now is: will I be able to use an ordinary ME2 disc rather than my collectors edition disc? My key is obviously from a Collectors Edition version - will I be able to use my friends disc to install it?

Yes, you can use your friends Collectors Edition disk to install, as long as you use your own serial everything should work perfectly.

Reason I ask is because they have the ordinary version - not the Collectors Edition. Sorry if that wasn't clear the first time.

The bonus content of the Collector's edition isn't on the discs itself, but tied as DLCS to the promo code. Therefore I don't think installing with a different DVD, but entering the correct code will make any problems :-)

All right...so..I know this thread is a year old, but I'mma leech off it, anyway. I got ME2 a short while after it released. I installed and played it on my old laptop. The problem now is I, like the op, lost the game manual, and, unlike the op (I'm assuming), don't still have the proof of purchase anymore. When I got my new computer, I foolishly uninstalled all of my games, including ME2, from my laptop, as such, there is no way for me to access the binaries folder. Does anyone know a way I can get a new cd-key (without buying a new copy), or should I just beg EA?

If you registered at EA or here, the record still exists, but yes, you have to go through the EA Help web site to find the Game Advisor choice, and from that, to the chatline.

Unfortunately, in my stupidity, I did not register the game. I've learned since then, though. In any case, thank you.

ME-3 is about six weeks away from release. Both EA itself and various game retailers are selling ME-1 and ME-2 at discounts, to help promote ME-3. By shopping around, you may find a sale that is attractive enough to buy the game once again.
