So I've completed the game on veteran a bunch of times with different classes and done some missions on hardcore and I thought I might try my hand at getting the insanity achievement for funsies.

Last time I played through the game with an infiltrator I played on normal-veteran though I think, so essentially how viable is the infiltrator class on insanity in comparison to the other classes?

Also, is there a mod/cheat that increases the amount of sniper ammo you have?:(
Seriously the infiltrator sniping in ME2 is the best part of the game(every time I get one of those perfect headshots I almost come in my pants a little) but going from full ammo to none so quickly kinda ruins it, then spending half the missions frantically scouring every part of every floor for weapon clips. One weapon clip=1 shot is NOT cool.:(

Also, warp ammo or armor-piercing ammo as bonus power? More damage versus armor and health versus lower damage versus armor, health and barriers?

I keep reading Infiltrator is about as safe a class for insanity as you can get... Makes sense... You normally operate at range sniping stuff, and when you get in trouble you can just cloak and get the hell out...

Bonus power.. Not sure its that much of a difference for ye. You can take allong squad mates to give you one or the other ammo power if you want. You already get incinerate (i think) to help against armor aswell. I`d personally go for Armor piercing if i had to pick between those two, but i always tend to bring 1 or 2 squadies allong with warp to help against barriers anyway

Armor Piercing. Barriers are nowhere near as common. If you really want Warp Ammo, use Advanced Training to get it before heading to Horizon or any of the Illium missions.[/sub]

I beat the game on Insane as an Infiltrator, the key is to stay mobile. You can't just bunker down and let enemies surround you, you have to pick a spot where you have options to run to other locations. Then you just throw up cloak and dash over to your new spot and cloak a second time to make the enemies rush toward your squad to give you a little sniping/breathing room.

Yea, but the flipside of relying on squad ammo powers is that you cant get as powerful versions as you can get by taking the improved rank 4 version (the non-squad ammo option).

I'll have to think on it abit and mess around with it ingame. After having completed the game the 60 000 EZO you start with is enough for plenty of respecs and still have enough left to get all the tech/bio upgrades.

Thanks for replying btw to all those who did.

Actually, if you have Armor Piercing Ammo, you can take the Cryo or Disruptor to Squad version, and the Armor Piercing to Tungsten. Activate Squad Cryo, then activate Tungsten. Your squad keeps the Cryo, and you have Tungsten Rounds.

Yea that would be pretty badass. Good idea.
Boosting two ammo powers up to rank 4 is alot of talent points though, could get a squad member with squad cryo I spose and just use tungsten rounds myself.

Only Shepard has Cryo Ammo.

IMO an ammo power isn't really worth it. You have Incinerate, Heavy Pistol and Sniper Rifle which chews through armour. Heavy Disruptor Ammo + SMG chews through shields. Barriers are relatively quite rare, and the only times they show up in numbers is basically Collector missions and Samara's recruitment. Just take Thane and Miranda along for those.

Infiltrator does great with the abilities its given. IMO just grab an ability that does well with 1-2 ranks like Neural Shock, Dominate, Energy Drain, or Shield Boost or something, and use the points to get Squad Cryo.

Thinking about starting an Infiltrator (for use on hardcore difficulty). The guide on the ME Wiki suggest Warp Ammo as a bonus power as the class lacks shield pewpew'ing abilities. But I figure I can counter that with Samara's Reave and maybe an Overload if needs be from squad mates.

Any other recommendations?

Bonus power isn't a big deal on infiltrator.

Ammo power:
I'll play with squad incendiary vs. armour if I really want it, but happy to just go without. You can juggle lots of ammo powers for the lolz, too.
Example: Bring Grunt and Miranda.
Equip sniper rifle.
Activate Squad cryo.
Tell Miranda to switch to pistol.
Activate Grunt's squad incendiary.
Switch to heavy pistol.
Activate Grunt's squad incendiary again.
Tell Miranda to switch to SMG.
Switch to SMG.
Activate disruptor ammo.

There you get SMG with disruptor for superfast shield stripping, Miranda with cryo on her SMG, Grunt with incendiary on his AR, and incendiary on Shepard's HP and SR.

Tungsten is awesome in the endgame, though. Those bosses are all yellow ... snipebait.

I've also taken slam (for cc with 3s cooldown), geth shield boost (1 point just to recharge shields, sometimes convenient in prolonged firefights), dominate (foes fight each other while you shoot) ..

I've been playing on insanity with an infiltrator, and after fiddling with different bonus powers have decided I really like Reave. It's fair good at chewing at barriers (thus filling out where I used to use Warp Ammo), but what I really like about it is the way it stuns the enemy, then they go into this out of cover back arch thing, which makes them easy for my companions to shoot. A sniper shot will at least bring down the shields, then I follow up with a Reave as needed. Saves ammo, too.

To me Infiltrator is the best class for insanity. I find that if you have a great aim, it's overpowered once you get the Widow. You can just deal so much damage with cloak+tungsten ammo+headshot. Then if you get bored of doing that, you can load up enhanced cloak, get up close and cryo-SMG people. Not to mention that you have Incinerate for damage and CC, and AI hack to make every geth mission a joke (perhaps not Legion's).

However, if your aim leaves something to desire, it might be really challenging as most enemies won't die from one shot to the body. It becomes a much more defensive and squad-dependent class if you tend to miss a lot.

I beat the game on Insanity as a Soldier, and it was a snooze fest honestly.

Infiltrator... now that's something I haven't tried yet. Really should give it a go.

You have incinerate for armor or could take a squadmate with an squad inferno.Warp ammo makes your class complete. You have tools against every protection.

I'm finding that warp ammo works best for the infiltrator

Honestly, what do Barriers matter when you oneshot things with a Widow, or strip the barrier with two Viper shots anyway? The only time a Barrier is really worth caring about in this game is the Praetorians.

Main problem with infiltrator on insanity - ammunition. You just have to be aggressive and keep advancing, saving your sniper ammo for when you really need it. The SMG isn't such a bad weapon.

Yes, use the cloak to advance quickly and (relatively) safely. Stopping just the occasional spawning of enemies saves ammo as well as time - and means less chance of being overwhelmed. The Sniper rifle I primarily used against tougher, armored targets and annoying (Harbinger) targets. I have done Insanity as Sentinel, Engineer and Infiltrator, and Infiltrator was by far the easiest. Cloak has to be one of the best powers in the game.

Well just finished Horizon! Only two deaths during the entire mission, went in expecting endless frustration and reloading galore\\o/

Funny considering that the last part of Jack recruitment (the warden kuril fight) had me dying like 10+ times before figuring out that I needed to play super aggressive and just get shield generators down and tunnel vision the Warden.

Also died alot on the last shutter part on Garrus recruitment (left one squad member with garrus), the right side shutter. Think those two parts are the only ones I've had any major trouble with so far.

Using Miranda (with Cerberus leader talent for +25% weapon dmg or whatever) and Kasumi. Working pretty well so far.

insanity mode is just that, nuts. i used infiltrator on insanity for my first run (says alot about me) and it worked out preaty well. had a lot of death but the cloak and sniper work well. get the semi auto one though.

EDIT: oh and i got the assault riffle ASAP. works better when you out of ammo.

You mean the viper? (doing thanes mission now)

I never liked that one, its nowhere near as satisfying as the mantis to play with=(

It doesn't feel like a sniper rifle at all, think I'll just stick to the mantis until I get widow.
