Hm, so you all say Hale sounds to sleazy when talking with Jacob???
I play the German version, and the german dubbing hasn't got this difference you are mentioning here. Maybe I should compare some youtube vids in order to be able to follow your complaints..^_^

Interesting...  I wonder if Jacob is more popular with female players in the non-English versions of the game.  Ya know, like how Jerry Lewis is really big in France.

I don't hate him, I just wish he would lighten up. And it doesn't help how he makes female Shepard seem like sloppy seconds.

This. Jacob is a goody goody two shoes, I think he's okay. Nice kid, but Anderson has soul.
I don't hate Jacob, but I don't love him either. I'd probably like him a lot more if my femShep could have a normal friendly conversation with him instead of acting like a weird MILF in a leopard spotted bathrobe around him.

Jacob is a walking stereotype, so I don't care much for him. He had so much potential at the beginning of the game as the nice Cerberus operative who wasn't out to get you, but was quickly forgotten when the other characters poured in.

Deconstructing the stereotypes:

- He's the token black guy of the entire galaxy.
- The sloppy pimp lines (the priiiiiize) and sleaze during romance.
- The uncanny resembelance to a certain Mr West.
- The rather ill concieved facial animations (the lip).
- The enthusiasm to live up to the black guy dies first cliche (offering to go in the vents).
- His affiliation with guns at the armoury.
- His position as the voice of contestation; continually disagreeing with the argument for the sake of it.
- The iffy loyalty mission concerning a black man's harem in the tropics.

It wouldn't be so bad if there was actually any Jacob character advancement, but he remains largely a shut in with conversations that all seemingly end within one minute culminating in a 'leave me alone' message. Miranda; the female Jacob equivalent, opens up, sits down with the Commander once her loyalty mission is complete. Jacob doesn't even undergo a personality shift.

I don't hate him, but Bioware did drop the ball...repeatedly...with Jacob. As he stands, he's pretty lacklustre and hopefully improves for ME3.

Jacob is the unlucky SOB I toss into the vents at the Collector Base.  Yeah, he's loyal, but I renegade my way through his mission for money, and thats about it.  I even spacebar past all the talking just so I can get the creds and move on to a loyalty mission for a character I actually give a damn about.

I hate Jacob. He is without a doubt the worst teammate in the Mass Effect universe so far. Seriously, how can anybody like him? A part of me wants to have him killed in the suicide mission and only him killed. Let me just say that if I ever do that nothing of value would be lost.

I just wonder why Hale isn't flirty with Thane or Garrus? Why just Jacob? Any theories on this?

Two years on a bench pumped full of growth hormones and prodded to stimulate muscle development.
Shepard wakes up horny as hell and Jacob just happens to be the first person she sees.

You humans are all racist.

When I played ME2 for the first time, Jacob was my most favorite teammate. I see no reason why someone should hate him.

Unfortunately for Jacob, this is what those growth hormones do.

Jacob isn't terrible, he's just kind of bland as a character. He's just your typical "soldier"- not a bad guy by any measure, just not very interesting compared to all the aliens and genetically modified people.

Jacob is a nice guy, but like the poster said before me, some of the other squadmates outshine him in alot of department. If he's in ME3 I won't go ''WOOHOO'', but I won't say ''ah crap not that guy'' either. As far as I'm concerned, he's a good soldier, and has it's place in my crew. (though gameplay wise, I never take him with me, his powers are just not good enough compared to some, I play the combat classes more than anything else, vanguard, infiltrators and soldiers).

Ah racist, yes your theory has been dismmised.  Why?

Because Captain Anderson was a brilliant character and does not have "prrrizzzeeee" in his vocabulary.  He might be too old but I'm sure he wouldn't make femshepard feel like some runner up award.

Jacob: Miranda deserves a better man then me....but you'll do fine as my prizzeeeee Shepard...
Female Shepard: FAIL!

Jacob's top row of teeth is disturbingly low and they're all very big lumpy teeth.

It's hard to find decent pictures of Jacob in google because the search is flooded with Taylor Lautner-Jacob Black pictures. -_-

Poor Jacob has the body (and face) of a silverback, with the soul of a little girl... snif

I don't hate him, heck no. I find a lot of his comments funny, but his pickup lines make ME feel embarrassed ("You know what gets to me? You"... aaaarrrggghhhh)

I felt like he had potential in the beginning but that quickly disappeared. I would honestly have preferred for bioware to not have included him at all and have spent more time developing the other characters. As far as I'm concerned after his loyalty mission he no longer exists and I no longer visit his room. He is disturbing as a female character and bland as a male character in my opinion not because he lacks background, I actually thought his back story was kind of interesting but because he really doesn't add anything.

I think I should have added an option to the poll that says: "He is allright but his romance is appalling."

After reading all this and looking in other threads this seems to be the canon opinion, concerning FemSheps however.

That is what I'd have clicked.

I like the dude. My paragon shep thinks he is a standup, honest, dude, and would like that entire bro hug, spill the drinks thing going. I think of him this way. My Party going out to spill drinks at the Citadel?
Tali- getting ridiculously giggly and passing out after 2 shots.
Miri- rolling her eyes at the antics
Jack, Femshep and Garrus getting **** drunk and starting trouble
Thane- well looking on with a zen stare if he came at all.
Mordin making hangover cures
Jacob the guy getting us all home safe in one piece because he is the designated driver.

I like him as a bro, and they should have left it at that.

But the romance was just tooo too toothgrindingly, mind numbing painful which made it kind of difficult for my FemShep to even...talk to the dude.
