This is the one part, the only part that just wrecks the story, for a bit, until I just omit it from the story and substitute that Shepard and the heavy hitters did not leave the ship and aided in EDI’s plan to escape . Why would Shepard leave with all the heavy hitters when they are installing tech from a dead reaper who killed all of the research team that landing before them, and tried to kill Shepard's team as they where trying to retrieve the tech?

How they build Shepard up from the first game to this one, and up to this point in the story, there is next to no way Shepard would say, “Hey guys lets go on some random shuttle ride while the non-combatant crew members install that very dangerous tech, which can not possibly cause a dangerous situation during our absence.” But guess what, surprise, surprise, something did happen.

Shepard would have stayed, and waited until the installation, or would have gone on the very important mission, telling joker and crew to wait until they came back, just completely goes against how they develop Shepard, I would have not done that, and I am not commander Shepard.

Shepard took his teammates all out to dinner to a buffet. He gets hungry you know.

Agreed. This and the whole back from the dead cliche are the only 2 things in the writing of this game that truely strikes me as bad and lazy. At least Shep did not have amnesia as well. That would have fromed a nice little RPG cliche trifecta.

It would have been nice if we got at least a short mission to do as Shepard in the meantime to give it at least some credibility. If I were Shepard, I'd have just chosen my team right then, but they needed something to drive the story.

It's a weak device, but really, there is no reason they should have expected to need combat personnel as a result of the Reaper IFF. After all, it's from a 37 million year old reaper, anything alive when it was created would be dead, and presumably there's no reason it would be transmitting anything. That's arguably also a plot hole, which I think has been discussed as well. Meh. Edit: Then again, it could have transmitted to the reapers first, then indirectly to the collectors... meh. Best not think too hard about it.

Thank Keelah.  I thought I was the only one who hated the 'back from the dead' cliche.

Yeah, this is pretty much the dumbest point of the game...although I'm not sure what's worse....that you leave the ship without having selected a mission or that you can't do a mission (or at least land somewhere) while underway.

So it's just one of those very obvious "plot logic" moments, which are usually hard to swallow....

Technically, it was so you could get on with other missions while Normandy was stalled getting the IFF ready.

On mine they supposedly were going to approach the Dyson Spear with a shuttle which didn't seem very smart.

I mean, I get it, it made good marketing. "Shepard's dead!!! WTF WTF!!!!!?????!!!!" But no, in story it was nothing but a way to shoehorn Shep into dealing with an organization he/she would never have otherwise touched with a ten foot pole. And no amount of space magic can explain how an oxygen starved brain can maintain personality and memory for more than a few minutes. Too bloody much handwaving and techno version of raise dead for my liking.

The thing that struck me as ridiculous was seeing the ENTIRE team take the scuttle that only has space for about 4 people + a pilot. What happened to picking your squadmates before getting on to the scuttle and leave the majority of the team behind. Damn plotwizards!

thats how they should of done it. you go on a mission and come back to find everyone but joker gone. then we get the whole joker mission as he retells what happened.

Was no one paying attention to what EDI says after you destroy the derelect Reaper? She could not anticipate how Reaper techology would react when installed into the Normandy's systems. So as a precautionary move all essential personel were evacuated from the ship. Not sure how people claim this to be a plot hole as it should be common sense.

I thought this was a bit stupid too. I mean What Captain leaves the Starship with their entire roster of senior officers? Thats just always asking for trouble. Everyone knows or should know, you leave behind at least 1 of your main team to 'watch the shop'

Simiple solution, have the event unfold as it does in the game except, have all the senior officers, and shepard not leave the ship, and clear the way for joker to follow EDI's directions, as you control joker. If they would have done that, then it would have been fine with me.

The whole back from the dead concept was fine by me, after all they were not specific about what sort of data they had on shepard, how extensive the information was, and what tech they used to accomplish it. Could have even been the whole soul concept, where the soul does not leave the vessel until the individual time has come, or that Shepard is something other then human, shrug.

Yeah this was the only major gripe I have with the story progression, a major "wtf " moment.

Makes no sense why they couldn't test it without leaving the ship in completely vulnerable state.

I love that every single person immediately saw that scene as Shep's whole team leaves and thought 'WTF?'

I'm sure Bioware might release some small DLC to fill that massive plot hole.
