I've heard mixed reviews about 13.  I heard the battling system is really nice... However, the whole no town, no victory fanfare, no other things that makes Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy, pisses me off.

Go into it expecting nothing and see if you like it.
Expecting nothing you'll find plenty that reminds you of FF.
It runs quick, smooth, the characters (IMO) are great, the story is great (it's far more character than plot driven, but if you like character-drivern stories it is great), and the combat system is deep and challenging and fun.

That's why I'm waiting until it becomes 20 dollars .  My favorite FF is IX... and nothing recently from Square has been anything like teh old FFs .  Maybe I'm just old school.

Minus the unrealistic campaign, every map having a glitch or two, the dlc being overpriced and crappy, xp hacks, overdue patches. It wasn't that bad

Teh only good thing about 12 was Balthier and his smex!bunny partner.  Everything else sucked.
