I think the auction itself is a novel idea, but it's implemented all wrong.
They shouldn't have this idiotic link spammage, or Twitter stuff. Instead find ways to reward forum and community participation (on top of game registering).

forum based trivia for tokens would have been excellent. easy to keep track of points and very fun and active all day long.
also more rewarding for people who know the trivia genuinely and don't use google or wikipedia to win challenges with 1 word answers.

All I know is that if I've learned anything from watching "Scrubs" it to never count out the janitor ;)

A raffle would have been good. But people would have just created a ton of accounts then. There is always a way to cheat the system it seems. :|

Are auctions 24/7?

Read the front page but yes auctions are 24/7.  Good luck to the 7 am PC winner!

awesome, i was unclear on this but i never sleep anyway, maybe my tiny 7k token count can snag me something after all.

The worst part is that the token farmers are making the auction almost completely pointless. If I could bid, and have fun, I wouldn't complain, even though I'd be losing. It's the issue that most of us can't even bid less than 20 seconds into any of the auctions. It's not even fun to watch, and we get shut out of it within seconds. Lame.

Yep! So stay up all night and get in on one when everyone else is sleeping ;)

But people in other parts of the world will be up to bid!

Oh wait...

I'm really wondering how much things are going to be going for in about 24 hours or so.  I'll be on later tonight and hopefully then things have toned down a bit so I can maybe snag some swag with my measly 5500 tokens.

You guys are missing the point.  Yes they are rewarding the community (as well as people that don't even care about bioware) but that's NOT their goal.

This is a form of advertising.  They give out free stuff, which is valued at 60K (but the real cost to them is much lower, probably more like 20K).  And they get a TON TON TON TON TON of word-of-mouth style advertising.

Then they shouldn't label it a community event.
Especially when you auto-exclude two thirds of the community then marginalise the rest.
