You guys are missing the point.  Yes they are rewarding the community (as well as people that don't even care about bioware) but that's NOT their goal.

This is a form of advertising.  They give out free stuff, which is valued at 60K (but the real cost to them is much lower, probably more like 20K).  And they get a TON TON TON TON TON of word-of-mouth style advertising.

I highly doubt the links people posted got anymore than a *click, close tab*. I don't see how that's succesful advertising... Even gaming magazines/websites that reported on it said it was a weird idea.

same here but my earliest game i have registered is kotor i got never winter nights and buldures gate as hand me downs from a friend when they left were i live now way back when never winter nights came out way back when

What I did early on was just send the link to my Steam friends without explaining it, so at least they got advertised to.
