Some people believe they might have a chance to win another prize. Others might do it, to make sure no one out bids them.

Exactly, its also the only way to make sure you don't get sniped.
Which is exactly what happened with my last bid.

A lot of people do the "all in" approach, but some don't.  One guy I bid against earlier did that; put in a bid with several minutes left, and then attempted a snipe with 1k more tokens at 6 seconds left ...

This is true, in fact I saw earlier that two people were waiting to snipe, however their point differences were less than ten apart, meaning if either just went ahead and bid, the other would not be able too.
