That will happen... Maybe... After the auction. Not earlier.TheBigGSN5 wrote...
It'd be nice if someone from Bioware said "Hey, sorry about the Bazaar; it didn't go the way we wanted it to and legally we could not change it once it started"
And think about this for a second: how many clicks got Bioware from that auction? Counters jump up to incredible values! And auction means wide-world adrvertise, that costs FAR MORE than that $70K, than they spent on auction.
All is Bioware wants is PROFIT. They'll get it, of cause. Great birthsday present FROM players TO Bioware. ^__~

sigh, a bazzar? it was a nice idea.
One more thing. No one, anywhere, at anytime, for any reason should ENCOURAGE spam, spamming and the supply and demmand of spam creating bots, software, WMDs etc. This is how the world will end - MARK MY WORDS!

I've been wondering.... Something like this Bazaar MUST take _months_ to get organized. Umpteen details to attend to. Now, BioWare already does business in 20+ different countries, and so they MUST be aware of differences in law between countries. So you would think somebody would have checked laws on restrictions on contests. At which point they would have realized, "Uh, we _really_ can't do this everywhere all at once." Yet, it was just _hours_ before the launch that they finally announced, "US only!" And at launch they've got ALL of the legalese all laid out -- which is not just something someone can just whip off on WordPad and post. The final copy had to be run past the Legal Department before it was publicly posted.TheBigGSN5 wrote...

So, BioWare does this, "We learned at the last minute" spiel, begging forgiveness. "Our intentions were good, but who woulda known that...."
Why was it necessary to wait to the last minute to deliver the bad news? Why keep all the non-US members in the dark, thinking they were about to partake in an EPIC event?
If you think that BW is being sincere with the "last minute" alibi, it means the event organizers were incredibly incompetent. On the par of, "You're fired" level of incompetence. Hear about anyone getting canned at BW?
OTOH, given all of the bellyaching that manifested when the Bad News was released simultaneously with the beginning of the event, it meant many people were (understandably) upset while those that _could_ participate were focused on participating. Had The Word been announced ASAP, then there would have been a good chance that all those upset peoples might have derailed the event launch. Something along the lines of, "We should hold off on this until we can ALL participate!"
And that would mean that BW would have to postpone getting all that MASSIVE amount of free advertising generated by a gazillion referrals. Can't have _that_ now, can we. And,of course all of the American participants would not have as easy of a time of it, winning ALL of the auctions, because if BW waited until EVERYBODY could play, that would mean there would be easily double the number of participants. DEFINITELY can't have _that_.
Of course, it's no skin off our nose if half the community -- for which this event was supposedly developed -- can't partipate. Ain't that right, my fellow Americans?
Anybody remember hearing the phrase, "ugly Americans"? I guess that it still fits, even after all these years.

Same. I could have spammed "PLZ CLICK HERE!!!!!1" links on the other fora I frequent, but my self-respect couldn't handle it. And, of course, it's a great way to get yourself banned— many fora (rightfully) despise those "Urban Wars"-style games that finance themselves largely through urging their players to spam links, and I don't think they'd see the BioWare Bazaar promotional links as significantly different.roundcrow wrote...
My belief that a kitten cries every time someone sends out more spam overrode my desire for swag.
Still, I suspect BioWare underestimated the degree to which people would try to game the system, mostly because I find it hard to believe they'd deliberately encourage such netiquette-less behavior.

ah well - maybe BioWare will find some other way to reward its fans. I refuse to spam folks I know/don't know with an advertisement link - if I like a game/dev company then I pass on the word about them and give a direct link to a website, I don't use referral links to 'pump' myself up (whether it be advertising revenue or BioWare Tokens as the end result).
Hope the folks who won are happy with their stuff - kinda wish I had even a snowball's chance in Hades to get a bid in and possibly win something, but I don't.

*sigh* so who was it that posted and said that, by Thursday [today], the 10k+ bids would likely not be the norm? Hmm?

I've been crunching the auction data for the last couple of hours. (What else do I have to do? My 5960 tokens isn't going to get me diddly.) Interesting stuff.
THUS FAR, the lowest winning bid has been 8620 tokens. There have been a grand total of _11_ winning bids under 9K. There has been ONE member that has won two auctions: Ecliptic Deimos. He won two auctions in a row: Abook pack for 9321, and a poster pack for 9250. I find it hilarious that after having just dropped 18K+ in tokens, the very next auction was one of the Big Ticket items that went for 10,806. I guess that's what you get for being impatient.
Currently I'm checking the various winners' forum Join Dates. Given just how many winners have Something####-type names ( a common format for social networks with LARGE memberships) I've got a suspicion that a LOT of the winners don't even own any of the BW games and just joined because there was "free" stuff to be had. And since joining, theiy and their LARGE circle of Friends have gamed the system. (Each member creates 11 accounts, each with links. First they have each of those accounts click each other = 500 points. Then each of umpteen dozen Friends just goes through each others accounts, clicking away. They had a whole week to do nothing but build up each others token totals.)
I had thought that BW supposedly was "giving back something to the community." That is, rewarding those that were already fans of BW games. But if it turns out that the large number of the winners didn't even own a BW game _before_ the Bazaar started, how would that be "giving back something to the community"?

Gaming the system or not, I guess I'll have to try. Please click the link
.
Which is something else I don't love about the whole thing: People filling threads with low- or zero-content posts, followed by "please click my link."
No offense intended to you, Wolfwalker61. I can't really blame people for trying.
