As it stands, if you tried to get your tokens using legit means you won't be winning anything. This is a contest to see who was the best at exploiting the system. Bioware didn't put in any controls to prevent it (outside of the daily limit) and doesn't seem to care that it was done. We should just go back to DA/ME and forget this cheater's giveaway exists.

I think you mean the "Cheater's Giveaway For Those Who Live in the States", right?

I agree with this but I also like to hold out some hope that towards the end of this week and the auction those of us who were "Paragons" about it will be able to partake in the bidding. Those with the 9k-14k range of tokens will have won their prizes and have nothing left to bid. Or, as i'm already seeing in other threads, those that exploited in extreme cases have been handicaped/had tokens taken away.Ralsar wrote...

It's a toss up if anything drastic will be "done" about this. But regardless, the concept and initial execution was handled a lot better than a bunch of other contests out there.
I'll F5 the auction if only to see what items i'd hope they eventually sell in the marketplace.

Dr.,
First let me start by saying I love you guys, and the work that you do. Mass Effect and Dragon Age are both in my all-time best games list. Not far off is Baldur's Gate and Jade Empire, Knights of the Old Republic as well. You guys make some of the best RPGs in existence.
That being said, I must express my sincere disappointment at this supposed "auction". I realize you guys didn't have to do this, and you had hoped it would be something for the community, but if you take a moment to browse through the forums here on the BioWare site, as well as many other forums, You will find a quite unhappy fan-base.
Within 10 seconds of an item going up for auction, it is at/near/surpassing 10,000 tokens with less than 10 people having bid. It would seem that the vast majority of your community has far less than this amount of points and can only sit by and watch as the seemingly same few people duke it out over 10,000 tokens.
I personally dislike social networks such as MySpace and Facebook and Twitter. In fact the only reason I made a Twitter account was to participate in the challenges for these auctions (I won once at the very beginning). Therefore, because I refuse to use social networks, I have hindered myself by not 'spamming' my referral link all over the net and instead reserved it for the two forums I read. This severely limits my point gaining ability and I know I am not the only one in this situation. I have (at the time of this message) 7,320 tokens, and there are a large number of folks who have even less than that. Are we simply out of luck? Do we just get to sit and look at the impressive items go up for auction for over 10,000 tokens and frown with disappointment?
I heard about the numerous situations involving work-arounds or exploits that some individuals used to falsely generate link clicks, In many cases garnering them upwards of 20,000 tokens. I also read that they had their tokens reset this morning. Is that really as far as it went? They blatantly cheated, many of them announcing it right here on the BioWare forums. Then after being informed they were being reset, they called foul and cried unfair? I for one would not have been as merciful, and I'm quite sure others would not have been as well. The cheaters should have been banned from participation all-together. They cheated, why do they deserve to participate?
I will not boycott your games, or anything along those extreme lines, I love your games, and this auction doesn't lessen my enjoyment of them. What it does do, is severely disappoint me to the point of no longer caring for community events such as this. I keep watching the new auctions go up every 15 minutes, just on the off chance that maybe, just maybe it won't rocket past 10,000 in a few short seconds, but I know full well it will.
Again, do not feel that you have lost a customer, you haven't. But you have gained a very disappointed one.

- Social site sign up = 1000
- Character creator 500
- Chris's challenges so far (1 win a day as of yesterday) = 2000
Total = 7950 without referal points.
If you didn't get referals on a massive scale you won't win anything. This is obviously about marketing. And now it's a waste of my time.

It probably could have been better, but at least I was literate and didn't rant and rave and call for a boycott like some people sometimes do.

Very interesting letter. Kudos for taking the time to write it. I think it should have been all about the contests personally. The situation is too easily exploited.

Not bad, it reads with a bit more dignity than I would've been able to muster.
I was hoping for that, because honestly, this won't make me stop buying/playing their games, but as I said in the letter, I just don't care anymore about "community" events.
I hope he does respond in some way. I truly do want to know what the co-founder of BioWare thinks about the same 5 people bidding 10k on stuff.

You hit the nail on the head. This entire 'event' was purely about getting people to potentially buy the new Dragon Age expansion. They used current owners as a street-team.
