I don't think so. I think it replaces strength for equipping purposes and item requirements, but not in the calculation of attack rating. However, does anyone know if actual melee damage is modified by magic or strength once you take the specialization?

The 'actual melee damage' on the character screen goes up when you raise magic. It does not go up with strength because my magic is still higher than my strength.

Don't say "attack power" because attack and power are two different things. Attack is accuracy, which must over come defense to hit. Power is the damage done, which is countered with armor.

For AW magic gives power. The debate is over how much attack it gives, which is difficult to tell since the attack stat doesn't show for mages.

Yeah, good pt.  Took out the word "power" for clarity.

Still, AW magic does not increase accuracy beyond 10 attack.

Is there a way to see AW's attack stat?

Between combat magic, aura of might and 6 to attack from items, I rarely miss. I used the respec mod and my dex is base 10 + 5, strength is 10 + 3 and magic is 89 + 9.

There's no way that I know of to check your attack on a mage.  A rather silly oversight, if you ask me.  After all, 2 mage spcializations emphasize melee.

You can see how often you hit under "heroic achievements" in the character status screen.  However b/c mages often use staves (at the minimum for 7 levels until AW spec) and staves never miss, that number is likely skewed.

Dont forget Miasma hinders enemy's defense which increases your chance to hit as well.

According to Bibdy's research, Combat Magic gives 5+ 0.2xSP (capped at 10) attack, Aura of Might adds +5. So you need a spellpower of 25 and Aura of Might to get the maximum bonus of +15 attack.

Also Combat Magic lets you use SP instead of str to determine damage and to satisfy str req to equip items.
