Hi,
i finished playing Dragon Age Origins.
i had to change my "games" folder's name (which Dragon Age was installed in) from
my mother language to english because of other game problem.

now when i'm trying to Install Dragon Age awakening it says i need to install dragon age origins first.
i tryed to reinstall Dragon Age Origins but the uninstall tells me the same thing.

i tryed to Install Dragon Age Origins again and delete the bad one but still it tells me this.

what can i do? please help me, i really want to play this great game.

Thank you,

A few possibilities here.

1) rename it all back to what it was at the beginning (as the installer cannot “see” the game if you changed the name of its installation folder)

or

2) run regedit, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Bioware\\DragonAge and correct the Path to what it’s really now (change the name of the installation folder) – may or may not work, but please be careful here as editing registries always represent some risks if you are not familiar with that,

or

3) try using some external uninstaller (Revo Uninstaller for example, it helped me with some stuck applications in the past) and – if it works - reinstall the game again,

3) delete everything manually (which will involve deleting DragonAge entries from the Windows registry too, which may be a bit more complicated - creating a restore point recommended) and reinstall again.

Something must work for you in the end…

Hi again. Sorry it did not work the easy way for you. But let's not give up hope yet.

Deleting manually is a bit more complicated, I’m afraid, needs much more to do in the registries.
Let’s go step by step through it:
Delete your DAO installation folder (you’ve already done it)

Delete the Dragon Age folder stored in the documents (it’s inside the Bioware folder – you may backup your saves/characters first)

Run regedit to go to the Windows registries:

First delete the Dragon Age folder in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\ SOFTWARE\\BioWare\\...  (you’ve done it, right?)

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\ SOFTWARE\\Electronic Arts\\ and delete the Dragon Age folder which is there, as well. (You may have two Electronic Art folders – one inside the other, as I do)

Then navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\ SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Uninstall folder and delete the {AEC81925-9C76-4707-84A9-40696C613ED3} folder if it’s still there.

Then go to InstallShield Installation Information (It’s in Program Files, but it may be a hidden folder so make sure it can be displayed; tick the correct option in the Control Panel/Folder Options first) – and look for the {AEC81925-9C76-4707-84A9-40696C613ED3} folder. If it’s still there - delete it too.

Now the DAO should be completely gone from your system. Try reinstalling again. Hope what I wrote is clear enough; it's somehow easier done than decribed. Posted Image

But please be very careful when changing the things in the registry, OK? Hope it will finally work for you.

I must again first thank you for the quick replay and the willing to help.

i did everything u said. and now when i installed DAO he even asked me for the cd key again (which he didn't in previous installetions) but still i can't install awakening because of the same problem.
it still tells me it can't find DOA folder in my comuter.

Edit: I don't know if it matters but everytime i installing DAO, when i choose "costume install"  the computer "remember" where the game was first installed, and offering it as a defult path. (G:\\Games\\Dragon Age Origins.)

any other methodes u have i can try and use?

Hmmm, it’s getting harder. Posted Image
Did you restart your computer after making all those changes? Maybe you should have? Forgot to write you about it.

So what to do now:
First go again to the Windows registries, to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\BioWare\\Dragon Age and make sure everything is fine with the Path values.

What OS are you using – if Vista/Win7 maybe you should install it as the admin of your computer? (I turned off the UAC instead)

I would try uninstalling again, restarting computer, cleaning up the temp folders (just in case, you may run Disk Cleanup utility) and installing again.

If nothing else wants to work try installing it to the default folder (Program Files on C:\\), I have it on another disk but some people report problems if they install it to other than the default location.
Also try disabling any antimalware apps for the time when you install the game.

And that’s all I can come up with now. Good luck.

One more: for Vista (and I think Windows7) there is also a hidden folder called ProgramData (on C:\\) - maybe it needs some cleaning up as well? You can make a backup for all DAO files there and experiment a bit with it...
