The game runs perfectly, but there's no sound. I've tried it with and without headphones, with and without the forced stero option turned on. My sound card drivers are updated and my PC exceeds the recommended specs.
Windows XP Service pack 3
Asus P7P55D LE motherboard with sound card
Intel Core i5 cpu
Nvidia GTX 260 gpu
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game several times and it doesn't help. Any suggestions?

Have you checked in the configurator? There is an option to disable sound. Maybe it is selected for some reason. If not, then select it save and then deselect it. Long shot, but if the sound is working fine on your computer but not at all in game I don't have many other suggestions.

I got the sound to work fine after yet another reinstall, no idea why. I played for a few hours, then the next time I started the game the sound was gone again.

Solution for Win 7 (x64): right click the speaker icon in the notification area and choose "volume control options" tick the "speaker"check box, then click "ok". Start the game and away you go =)
