By participating in the contest you are bound by the contract that EA has set forth, and they have stated that the company has a right to amend or verify at anytime. Which you agree to reaffirm by participating in their contest. I like to see you take this to court and win Mallissin. Go ahead and try it.

I think they are penalizing users that used that shady image method. Totally unfair for people that were requesting their links properly.

Using words like "ergo" won't make something that makes no sense a rational argument.

There are laws regarding "skill contests", which the Bazaar has to follow or it's considered a "lottery", which are illegal. Part of those laws require equal treatment of all participants.

Ergo, I want my 2000 tokens back.

They did. Most of my tokens got taken away too.

I don't see them going after the linkfarm people.

What about the people who were basically cheating..they have nothing to do with it?  Innocent as pure-driven snow?

Is it fair that one method of "cheating" gets singled out when two others run rampant? Why aren't the pyramid scheme threads stopped? Why don't they have proxy and Tor IPs blocked?

I wouldn't know..see I'm not as lucky as you, I don't get to participate.   I'm Canadian.  I was excluded.

So..like I stated before,   count yourself lucky you are still in the race.  Many, many others didn't even get to the starting gate.

Besides..this is Bioware, Ea's site...the tokens are free..the prizes are basically free,  no purchase necessary to participate.

So what you lost was some pixilated tokens, that you can't put in your pocket.   They are monetarily invalid, you cant trade them..they are worth nothing except for bidding in Bioware's auction..thats it.

how true,he got them for nothing ergo he lost nothing by them being taken away and yet protests over the fact that while he cheated it was only a tiny cheat about something free which he never had in the first place!

Why does that remind me of a Rubik's cube ..hehehe and I agree! :)

Precisely. In order for the Bazaar to avoid appearing as an illegal lottery, BioWare needs to get rid of one of three components of a lottery: chance, consideration, or a prize. You can't take away a prize, so that leaves chance and consideration. So far, it seems that BioWare's lawyers decided to get rid of the element of chance, so that this Bazaar will not appear like it's an illegal lottery.

In this case, consideration is the whole token-earning thing.

If you're Canadian, why do you have a BRC link in signature?

Edit note: Or involved in this discussion at all?

I am Canadian, I put the link there for fun, but I still can't participate.     And..I can post anywhere where my registered game allows me to post.   *wink*

Bioware people not only posted in most of those link exchange threads saying "You are just helping tons of people get lots of points, but if that's how you want to play"

which is tacit support saying it's okay.

And they let multiple threads of it go, even though they were reported multiple times.

Honestly, the image-link trick is a trick. The link exchange thread tricks no-one. It's more or less what those referral links are for-

ok, they were MEANT to be a way for Bioware & EA to try and get some advertising elsewhere, but what I hear is the people doing that often got banned from said sites for doing so.

In any case, from day one they gave tacit support to the link exchanges. They never said the link-image thing was ok, in fact I remember Woo warning that he thought it was probably shady and he would recommend against it.

I mean, they´re not delivering Asus Republic of Gamers stuff nor Death Metal shirts (which otherwise I have from the concerts) so it´s not a terrible deal to not get anything.

The link exchanges are pyramid schemes. They trick anyone that joins them. The first few posters get exponentially more clicks than the people on the last page. Or in most cases, the people on the last page get barely any at all.

The "official" one helped the OP win one of the computer auctions.

Meanwhile the IMG method only tricks the browser. No human souls injured with false hopes.

Since this apparently is not a simple discussion of point totals, it gets re-opened.

Start of line.

My opinion:

If you cheated and got punished, you have nothing to complain about. You cheated. What you did was unfair. If the response was also unfair, deal with it.

True... but BioWare was not very clear about it until the very end.

I know they owe me nothing, but still...

I did what I did as fairly as possible. I shared the trick with everyone, asked the staff directly whether it was alright, and desisted whenever it appeared that was not the case. Bioware was also largely ambiguous on the matter in word and action. It's only now that we get a true measure of their response and what they feel is appropriate. And that feels inappropriate.

Lack of response was unfair to us. Lack of accurate, equal punishment was unfair to us.

Okay, guys, from what I understand, people had to ask if the cheating was cheating in the first place. If you have to ask, it's probably cheating. That means that people knew what they were doing wasn't right. I can't speak for the people who followed suit, though.

Myself, I never got any extra points to start with, so whatever. I'm not bothering with the auction. The loot you can get is pretty awesome, but I don't have enough tokens to even compete. The tokens I have were legitimately earned by buying and registering the games, and clearly that just isn't enough.

We didn't tamper with anything. It was options available to us on Bioware's site. So, yah...asking and getting an answer is polite. Except we asked and didn't get an answer for two days.

It was suggested to you by a mod that you shouldn't do it until you got an answer. Then when the final decision was made, they told you ti was cheating. I don't see why it's hard to see that you're paying for it now.

No, if you have to ask, it's a gray zone. If it really is cheating, you wouldn't be asking. The questionability of our morality is only that we were willing to tread on the gray so long as it appeared largely white. I feel insulted that for it, I was painted black.

Yeah, in the end this auction was mostly a bid to get people to promote Bioware products. I don't imagine there will be a single winner out there who didn't do this.

You were told it was a bad idea from the start. And then what you were told was verified.

"You're probably going to get punished for this."
"I'm going to do it anyway."
"What do you know, you are getting punished for this."
"Why am I getting punihsed for this?!"

Quoted for truth.

Yeah, if you got told, "This is probably a bad idea, don't do it until we answer you," then you shouldn't have.  Frankly you shouldn't have if you had to ask first.  You should have waited.  I know two days is forever in Internet time, but in real world terms it isn't very long at all.
