Even if there is an exploit, you should not be using it. It's unethical.

Why in the heck are they resetting points? Do they do it on purpose or is it another messup with this buggy site?

It's because some people have been using exploits to get tokens, which ruin the Bazaar for everyone else.

The most desperate I'll get is sending a mass email to all the students in my class asking for clicks

But I won't cheat. That's a bit tooo desperate

Interestingly enough, I believe I've been docked a little under 100 tokens between last night and now.

Definitely haven't been using any method of circumventing the contest rules.

How is that even possible? Don't they make sure that each person can only click them once a day to get points? Or do people use some program to keep changing their ip or something?

It looks like they just purge the information about IPs they collect every night. Pretty bad system imo. Tokens should have been based on registration refferrals, rather thans linking like this.

The quality of traffic is also pretty bad, it's all recycled.

My tokens went down once today as well, strange. Not quite a 1000 though.
I haven't been using img tags since they announced it was cheating, last Thursday.

Wonder what's up.

Right, and the token exchanges (pyramid schemes) or the constant spamming of beggars in every thread isn't ruining the forum/bazaar?

I'm not pleased for 2 reasons:

1.) It took them 4 days to state the image BBcode was against the rules. If Mad Method didn't bring the issue up, I have a feeling BioWare wouldn't have cared.

2.) I gained ~1k token referrals before I started putting the image tag in my sig.
I gained ~2k referrals between the time BioWare started redirecting the referral links up until the start of the auction.
I only got back 1.3k tokens after they were removed.
I'm up 2.7k now, but 1.4k of that total was from new referral clicks within the last 3 days.
I'm still missing ~1.7k referrals. Not cool.

I sent a PM to Chris why my tokens were taken away (I didn't do the image thing) no response yet.

So as far as I can tell from people's posts here, there have been a lot of point reductions so far, which have hit people who have and people who haven't used the image trick. The actual reductions appear to be rough guesses, possibly through the use of some ridiculous math like "days with image link"  x 2317.102 or just plain dumb guesses. Some people haven't even used the trick, but were still docked points. As far as I can tell, I'm the only one to get docked all my referrer points. And Chris Priestly still hasn't responded to anyone. The entire bazaar seems rather poorly thought out and poorly maintained.

Mallissin wrote...

I know Priestly was lying when they said they had a way to track it. Anyone with a little experience working with web logs will know you can't tell the difference between a request from an IMG tag or a normal click.

Actually, not true. All you have to do is compare the list of IPs that viewed the referrer link and see if that IP loaded, say, a CSS stylesheet on the page they should have been redirected to that day. If it was the image trick, none of the content on that page would have been loaded. Alternatively, they could check the HTTP referrer headers on the clicks and see if the referrer urls contained an IMG tag pointing to the Bioware Bazaar, but that's more easy to circumvent and a hell of a lot more resource intensive. All of this, of course, assumes they kept such web logs. Anyhow, I code websites too.

Did you get those tokens from clicks beyond the 500 daily threshold?

That might be it? This was also the first time I had ever reached the diminishing returns point for referrals. While markedly less successful than you, I went to sleep with at least 50 such single token clicks.

We can only guess. Try recording your ending totals for tonight and reconciling those with your starting totals tomorrow?

I'm happy about the points reduction. I lost around 6.5k points. I've been working hard to get more tokens since. I regret my decision but deserved the punishment. I lost more tokens than img tricked too but I won't complain. At least I've earned my way to a competitive bidding amount. Looking forward to trying to win an N7 Pack or something.

I had 14,000+ points. The reduction brought me down to 8,600+ points. I lost a lot of tokens and any chance of winning a bid. Since, I've been continuing to work just as hard to get my link out and won 2 Twitter Challenges. I'm up to 11,001 tokens right now.

Overall I'm happy because of all the rediculous people that were higher than me. I only started using the img trick (2 days after it started) because I didn't think I had a chance of winning when I saw 9/10 sigs using the trick. I didn't know BioWare would do anything about it so I took matters in my own hands by hopping on the Bandwagon. Stupid but I thought they were going to get away with it prevent those that didn't use the trick from having any shot at an auction.

I'd have more tokens than 11k if I didn't use the trick. But, that was a stupid chance I took. Like I said, I'm happy about it as those that cheated got what they deserved, including myself. I've been working hard to be able to win an N7 Pack. Now I have a chance. I'm proud of that. No one could ever question my Integrity, Integrity means a lot to me. I threw my moral character out the window when I used the trick.
