Anyone ever draw or find artwork of someone's interpretation of what Kasumi looks like without her hood up?

Not that I know of...but me and AZ Rush thought Kasumi would look something like this :

A few pages back, someone did an really really nice sketch on Deviant of Kasumi without her hood. There is an few other good fan arts lying around on the thread, mostly in the 30s and 40s.

Nah, I'd think Kasumi would look more Japanese than that. The eyes are distinctly western.

If you look closely at some of Andaius' pictures, her eyes actually look sort of western.  Nobel and I were thinking that she might only be half Japanese.  Also, her structure doesn't look 100% Japanese either.

Yeah. Though IMHO her eyes are definetly asian and her make-up probaply even pronounce it, but there is definetly something western in her. Atleast if real life japanese are concerned, Anime characters in the other hand tend to have Kasumish body shape. Her eyes, while quite round, are still angled indicating that she is mostly asian.

It seems like BioWare is having a difficult time designing Asian characters - I mean, you'd think that at least half of the humans you run into would be Asian or part-Asian (Kaidan?). Maybe it's the Unreal engine?

If it is in fact because they can't animate one, I'd be surprised. After all, this guy is their Art Producer:

Kim from Gears of War looked like he was cut right out of Jade Empire, I think it's just Bioware's art designers/modelers are not up to snuff. I mean look at how awful the NPCs look in both games (especially the female ones in ME 1). I know that they are suppose to be of mixed lineage if you go by the books but either the modelers can't handle such a task, or it was written in as hard as it was because of their difficult to compensate. One major problem is indeed the eye department, just look at any random NPC and you'll see a strange flicker esque to their eyes, for instance Matsuo's looks different from other female NPC's but they still don't look quite right. This carries on into Udina, Conrad and Hock.

It all is very reminiscent of Final Fantasy 10, however the ME games also have issues with how the main characters are modeled as well. I would say that they are trying to sell the mixed lineage.

Well I for one am fine with her looking half Japanese, I believe that she has been designed very well, whether or not she looks truly Japanese.

It's not really the slant of the eyes that I'm looking at. If you look at a lot of Japanese faces, you'll notice that their eyes lack the skin folds that more western style faces have. Though if you have a mixed culture, which the Mass Effect universe implies is far more predominant, then Kasumi would likely have slanted eyes with the skin folds of westerner.

And interesting quality they gave to Kasumi's face is that it's not a slim face. Rounder, fuller faces is actually more of the facial structure you'd find on a Japanese person.

Anyway, I had this conversation with a friend of mine where he mentioned he didn't like how they kept pushing Kasumi as your Japanese ninja stereotype because humans are supposed to be this mixed culture society. But I figure the more you mix cultures, the more some people need to cling to the traditional for fear that such traditions are lost to the masses. Where would the universe be if not for Kasumi's grandmother keeping the tradition of ramen alive?

you can pretty much see her whole face. So just make up some hair and you have what she looks like.

I found her being the most boring character along with Tali and Grunt. She has the most tedious comments when I take her along to missions compared to say, Legion, Mordin or Zaeed.

faith from mirrors edge was apparently Eurasian, so if Kasumi is half Japanese then she would look something like that.
I agree  with the guy who said they need to get a decent asian look in the game, I tried creating an asian character in game, dear God the eyes in the CC look terrible, I cant make a good looking asian shepard to save my life, then again I usually suck at creating characters :(

That's the closest I've seen anyone come to an Asian looking face. I love it and I use it for my female Vanguard.

But I agree with you guys that Kasumi probably isn't 100% of Japanese descent, but I get the feeling that there aren't many "pure blood" people in the Mass Effect universe. The description of Anderson from the novels seems to support that. He's described as a big mish-mash of different ethnicities and races or whatever. Kasumi is probably like that.

The eyes on that face make her look more like a dark-haired Caucasian than Asian.

Like mentioned previously, Asian-type eyes don't seem to fit properly with the whole blinking mechanic. It produces that weird flicker whenever an NPC like Maeko Matsuo narrows her eyes or blinks.

Well she dosent look very Asian.... SWtill better than my attempt, now I will delete my character and this will be my new female infiltraitor, it looks alot better than my attempt at an asian character so its notperfect but its better. Still not Asian enough though.

I don't believe the artists for Mass Effect are having an easy time conveying the Asian features. If I remember correctly, in ME 1, the security guard on Noveria (the one who stops you when you first land) was of Asian descent, but her features didn't really convey that. You basically have to listen to some of her dialect to notice.

I actually thought Maeko Matsuo did cover some Asian features rather well. But when Revelation describes Anderson, it does stress the homogenization of various racial features. Still, while I think a mixed racial background has become the norm in the future, think there is still some room for your more classic racial appearances.

I've been wondering about the differences you're likely to find from someone who lives on earth versus those that are spacefaring. Kasumi struck me as someone who was born and raised in Japan, but she obviously took to knowing the ropes of alien society quite quickly. But there are going to be those who never see an asari in person.

That's why I said that's the closest I've seen.  You're right, it's far from being Asian, but it's the best someone looking for an Asian Shepard is going to get, I'd say.

Hopefully they work on asian feautres in ME3, because there may not be many asians in ME dosent mean people wont want to make asian characters, also now kasumis is in, and damn she better be back as a squaddie (or LI? hopeflly) so now they kinda have more of a reason.

Everyone being one race is a high possibiblity, increased immigration and all that, we are in a very diverse place. However that dosent mean in ME there would be everyone mixed race, there could be people who are pure asian, caucasian, african and hispanic. There could have been a colony started by all japanese people that is still full of japanese people, same for other cultures, its not a possibility to rule out, especially in the ME universe.

Hello Kasumi fans! Dropping by from the Tali thread to give my support to this wonderful character, and to show you a quick little teaser of a future video (hopefully).

I know a lot of people wish Kasumi could have been an LI (or will be in Mass Effect 3), so I imported her and Shepard's character model into 3dsmax and applied the Jack romance animation for the fun of it.

Posted Image

I'm just doing this project for giggles so don't take it seriously, but thought you guys might enjoy.

Note, what you see in the teaser is EXTREMELY unfinished, most notably on the environment (which is a high-res remodel of Shepard's cabin).  I'm also going to be creating a 4096x4096 textureset for Kasumi and improving the textures I have on Shepard, so I'll keep you guys posted if you're interested.
