Romance without love-making?

It's not to say the romances are bad, but perhaps a well-made romance doesn't need the sex to culminate it. Bastila from KOTOR is a good example. Also, Jaheira from BG2. I felt more attached(well...rp-wise) to these characters than Liara or Leliana for example.
Perhaps it's possible that having over the top sex encounters can sort of spoil the relationship? This is just speculation of course. I'm only talking about certain promiscuous party members, some of the other ones are much more down to earth, like Alistair or (surprisingly) Morrigan.

I have to agree with Estelindis. Out of curiosity, is this the case with the other romanceable characters (such as Zevran?) I imagine it probably is.
With Zevran, as long as you don't insult him when you turn him down there is no disapproval at all. I am running a really innocent male mage right now who bungled (as in didn't get to the tent) his attempts to invite Zev to the tent and got approval every time, turned Zevran down when Zev made the tent offer and then finally managed to consumate the relationship.
Edit: With the Zevran romance, you can put off going to the tent with him until after he makes a commitment by offering the earring which doesn't happen until the Landsmeet. *SPOILERS* To complete the romance with him, you must ask him to the tent after that, and he will refuse out of confusion about his feelings. The romance does not complete until you talk to him again when he admits his feelings for the PC and offers the earring a second time if the PC initially refused it unless it was a token of affection and says that the earring is a proposal, "only if you wish it to be." So the completion of his romance actually doesn't involve sex. You can literally go off to kill the archdemon without having ever gone to the tent with him. Kind of ironic given his reputation.
This is in fact the case with Zevran. You have to ask him once, but you don't ever have to actually do the deed. Now, he gets a ridiculous approval bump if you do bed him, but you don't have to, and the culmination of the relationship isn't sex, but him trying to awkwardly explain that what he feels for you is more than lust. And a proposal.

Well, I can't disagree with the time it takes to get them but I don't mind it leading to sex. I really didn't care if my relationship with Leliana would lead to sex, I just wanted to have her love me. It seems corny. I don't mind having only some relationship lead to sex or at the very least it takes substantial amount of effort.
I agree that it took me couple of camp visits and a quest to get Leliana to bed, which seems really easy... Morrigan is even easier...
I do want to love someone without sex, why isn't that possible?
It is possible. But don't be surprised if your romance partner DOES want sex. That's not unrealistic. As other people have pointed out, however, at least with Zevran, you can turn him down and he doesn't disapprove, and he'll still fall in love, and perhaps, in his own way, propose.
Shocking, that!
Edit: What those silly ninjas said!

There really should be an option to romance Wynne... Her voice turns me on. I like her conversations about her bosoms... If you don't want to have sex with Wynne then let us have the option of taking a bath together... Besides Leliana, Wynne is probably the chick I would go after... I don't like Morrigan, it seems like she's been around the block... Who knows what she does when she's is in animal form... I prefer freshness, Leliana, or quality, Wynne...
So you don't like Morrigan because she's been around the block a few times, but you like Leliana and her "freshness"? Did you like, block out the whole bard thing and Orlesian promiscuity or something?
LMAO! That is exactly what I did. I put more weight on her forbidden fruit comment than any other. "Not every gets a bite," is enough to imply that MY Leliana is a sweet innocent girl who's fruit can only be bitten by those that love her.
So yea, I did ignore her supposed Orlesian materialistic lifestyle and assume she was an exception...<3
Hehe alright just checking, making sure I wasn't going crazy there.

I agree. I think Wynne would be a great romance option for the males - I think she has a huge crush on Alistair. I don't blame her though
I don't blame her. Allister is great. I would love to romance Allister but I fear that once I do him his adorebleness will be gone. I want him to stay pure, innocent, and adoreable. I fear that once he takes a bite of someone's fruit, he'll become different. He's like a little puppy you don't want to have grown up. A cute little innocent baby and you want him to stay that way.
He is even more adorable when you romance him - he is just the most darling (and saucy) flirt. I just wish there was even more of him

Yes, I know Zev is saucy but that is part of his personality - he is quite risqé. It sounds more adorable coming from Alistair because he is so 'pure and innocent' - one could just eat him up.

No, it sounds like Ali is trying too hard. His best romance line is "Maker's breath but you're beautiful. I am a lucky man," and that's only because it's the tone of voice he uses.Bratt1204 wrote...

I have to admit, as beautiful as that line is, I don't find it compares to, "Everything that I have taught says what I feel is wrong. Yet I cannot help it."
*swoon* His voice there.

oh and he looks hilariously creepy during this scene
He has many great flirtatious lines (prior to sleeping with you, mostly) - like 'showing you one of his moles' and that 'he has other lines to use on you, don't you worry' (paraphrased). He is an adorable flirt if you choose the right dialogue.

One gripe I have about the romances in Dragon Age is that each one culminates in sex. I think it would be much more plausible if only some of the relationships developed into sexual intercourse. For me, it feels like I'm just working towards a sex scene reward and not a loving connection with the character.
Another gripe I have is that these "loving" relationships form too quickly. You go to camp, give them a lot of gifts, pick the correct dialogue choices and BAM! You're having sex and in a "loving" relationship. The original Mass Effect had much better pacing, I feel. In ME1, you spend time talking and getting to know your love interest throughout the entire game and then finally, at the end, your relationship forms...and you have sex.
Anyone else feel the same way or similar?
HAVE SEX SCENES IN GAMES. CAUSE CONTROVERSY. INCREASE SALES. NOT ENOUGH, LOL? MAKE SOME DLCS.
ITS LIKE REAL LIFE, GIVE GIFTS TO A GIRL, TALK TO HER AND YOU'RE BANGING HER ALREADY. VIDEO GAME ROMANCES ARE SERIOUS INDEED.
I WANT DOG AS A LOVE INTEREST.

I don´t see it like that. Sure, It CAN be that way, if you want, but I only talked to companions once in the camp, then did next mission, then talked again etc... and only gave them gifts if it was the only way to progress further.
By that way, it actually felt like you spend more time with them than in ME1.
And to me, it seems to be a good thing that you can progress as fast as you want. Imo it sort of sucked that you have to finish the entire game to finish the romance in ME1.
