I think Sten needs to be an option... If this game was real life and if I was a hot chick as one of my character is I would offer myself to Sten to see him smile once in a while, visibly... I would also offer myself up to Oghren to help him ease his, ugh, loss... I want my dog to have another dog to enjoy... Don't you guys feel the same way when you talk to Sten? A night in tent would curse his lack of positive emotions? Cheer him up?
Also Morrigan should charge me to use her tent whenever I am romancing people...

Have you even listened to the conversation between Sten and Morrigan?

Maybe those wardens should learn how to think? Not his fault they're dumb enough to place him on the thing that you sit on that he doesn't want:?

Edit: spoiler removed.

Pretty sure most people their first playthrough had to look at the thread dedicated to the topic of managing to get him to not do that after you do that by making yourself that also, and that otherwise nearly everyone encountered that scene where he does that and you feel sad because despite knowing what was happening you didn't want to believe it. So it's not like certain people are dumber than others. I think most people got at least a little hoodwinked by that, and making characters after your first one who are geared specifically so you can be that while he's that and live happily ever after is a little sad to me.

Not really. I didn't even bother doing spoilers the first three play throughs and got that on my second, I was irritated for a second before I realized shock! Its a perfectly valid and even proper thing to do (well the dumping not the dumping in public).

And also: Making him king of a country that was nearly devastated after the blight and ensnaring him in the one thing that he says he doesn't want to do is supposed to be a happy ending for him? Even when in nearly all the convos you have with him he tells you how much he loves being a Grey Warden?

Happy for YOU not for him. He says several times he did not want that life for himself. So yes that was a dumping well earned.

You may have been hoodwinked but I feel it was on the same level as those who are shocked by Morrigan ditching them. The game gave you plenty clues you just choose to dig your fingers in your ears and ignore them.

Right, that's why he's married to my PC now? You cannot even get him into bed unless he is in 'love' with you - so that kind of blows that theory.

And he's married to mine, too. And he doesn't even like her. Because guess what, he doesn't have to love you to marry you. So that kind of blows that theory, too.

Alistair just seems like a great friend to me, not really romance material. He's just a little too innocent. His romance lines also really didn't come across as cute, but as has been said before, trying too hard.

At least with Zevran or Leliana your Warden has a Chance at happiness. Zevran is devoted fully to the Warden, since the Warden gives Zevran what he desperately needs-a chance to be free and make his own choices. Leliana, I've never completed her romance, so I've no clue how that ends, but I'm sure it's happiness, at least for a time.

My PC is VERY happy with Ali as her husband.

Hah, I think the problem MOST people have is the dumping happens in public. Oh, and that and he makes you choose between him and anyone else right up to the doors of the Landsmeet. And if he's hardened, he most certainly does say he wants to be king if you ask him at the Landsmeet before deciding.

Ah well, even when my warden marries him, she still runs off with the Antivan. HE actually proposes.

Edit: Damn ninjas. Have to add in the quote here for context now!

Sure, that's because he's never done it before. Now that he has that instinct is going to kick in, besides it's not like Calian and Maric weren't married. I'm just saying, don't be surprised to come home after a day of slaying Darkspawn and find little hubby there in bed with the maid, baby sitter, and Leliana.

I'm starting to enter dangerous territory, must be careful. Few things in this world are as beautiful and deadly as an Alistair fan girl.

Actually that was the one thing that annoyed me too.

Do you really need to dump her infront of the whole party? Really?

If he's hardened he'll tell you that YOU pushed him into deciding that is best for himself as well. So yeah once again. No one to blame but yourself.

Also seeing as how you can get the mistress ending (which I don't see why everyone acts like its so horrid. Frankly the woman on the seat ending is boring as heck to me GW ending ftw!) only when he's hardened by simply telling him to drop the matyr act (well maybe not in so many words ^_^ ) balances out the whole "wanting to be the guy on the seat" thing in my eyes.

Before I get accused of fangirling: I like most of the characters with the exception of Morrigan and Zevran. Those two I frankly despise. Sten irritates me but not as much as Morri and Zev.

1. So you didn't get it until your 2nd playthrough. Which goes along with what I said... And like I said, without having help to figure it out, many people get done that thing by him, publicly, after he was unwilling to even discuss the future with them in the first place and admit it wouldn't work out. I didn't expect it to work out myself, so... not sure what you want from me?

2. He does say he wants to be made that thing--if you harden him, he's actually quite emphatic about telling you to make him that thing instead of making Anora that thing.

3. Don't go removing spoilers once then blatantly writing them in your next post. At least be consistent one way or the other.

Heh, not exactly -- my warden got dumped all of once by Alistair.  But again, I'm for Zev.  I prefer his complete and total devotion.  That kind of love, though, probably never really happens.  Funny how the sleazy and shallow one is the one who ends up with that kind of devotion and loyalty.

Edit: I way prefer, "You and me, and the rest of the world be damned." It's very compelling.

David Gaider himself has stated that Gray Wardens have a chance to have a child with a non-GW, but 2 GWs are essentially Sterile.

My first playthrough was a HNM who made Anora the one because he realized that Ali didn't want to be the one. So...what exactly is that supposed to mean?  Frankly I think I only had Ali on about 60 approval on the game too. Now that I think about it.

2. He does say he wants to be made that thing--if you harden him, he's actually quite emphatic about telling you to make him that thing instead of making Anora that thing.

Weird in my games its more of a "you told me to stand up for myself and so I decided to do this out of duty." I never heard him say he actually *wanted* to be the one unless I had a game where Anora betrayed me. Then again might be a limitation. And you hardened him on your first playthrough? Without spoilerz? What a mean to say! No wonder he dumped you! JK.

Ah true I'll go ahead and edit that post. Twas an accident. No need to jump down my throat about it.

Not confusing, but being deliberately dense.  In my games, Alistair HAS to find someone else, because Queenie Cousland is busy elsewhere.  So either a Theirin or a Cousland will end up on the throne -- but hopefully Ali will be having fun at least!

(That is of course as long as the Warden doesn't choose the ultimate sacrifice, when the result for bereaved Leliana is rather sad).
