Executive Officer by rank, yes.Natali-Major_Momscream wrote...
I thought Miranda declared she was Shepard's 2nd in command when talking to Jack?
But by role in story progression, it's interchangeable between Miranda, Jacob, and Garrus.

Samara and Thane have pretty entertaining recruitment missions, but I never really connected with them. And Grunt is my right-hand bruiser. Seriously, having him in your party should provide a +25% bonus to speech.SirEmilCrane wrote...

Honestly, Miranda would be my last choice as Second in command. Every peice of advice she gives you on the suicide mission gets someone killed, and from what we know about the Lazarus Project she has no idea what it means to motivate.
Now now, we musn't blame Miranda because Bioware used her to cleverly mislead us on the suicide mission.
She as much as tells you, though, that she doesn't have that fire to inspire people the way you do, and that this is one of her biggest flaws...

I know they have a squad function, but they don't do anything on the normandy
not saying I don't like them that is, but compared ot Miranda, Mordin, Tali, Garrus and Jacob they are just passengers

Tali doesn't have much of a job either. It says she's Chief Engy, but I'm pretty sure Ken and Gabby could handle themselves. And Jacob? He makes sure the guns stay clean and not stolen. And then leaves when the crew is.SirEmilCrane wrote...

Jacob is first mate on my boat, he is always with me to introduce the crew to the Normandy.
I know! I think Bioware was looking for something to do with him. Instead of him at that counter all the time.
So they were like, "I know! Let's make him, like, the Normandy greeter!"

Tali is gods gift to engineering, Gabby and Ken call her their boss so I think she must be doing something right
As for jacob, well what else does an armoury master do?

Kick ass and take names on away missions, greets the new crew, and makes a few enemys along the way (Tali, Thane)

Sure she may be the most technologically savvy crew member, but calling her god's gift to engineering is a stretch. There's likely plenty of better engineers than her, and as I said before, Gabby and Ken were doing just fine without.SirEmilCrane wrote...

I don't want to get in a massive arguement but several times she is stated as one of the galaxy's best engineers, thats why she's on the team in the first place
It takes more than two people to maintain an engine anyway

Yes, two to maintain consistency and other techy jargon, and one to clean it.SirEmilCrane wrote...

Where.
Read the blurb for her when chosing her on the suicide mission, also talk to engineer adams, he says she knows more about the normandy than most of his engineers do
