I went to buy the Kasumi DLC today and found that you can't seem to buy it for money directly but need to purchase money that can only be used on bioware stuff.  I can't say i'm particularly impressed by this pointless middle method but i went to buy bioware points only to find i can't seem to buy a certain amount but have to buy 800 points when the DLC only costs 560.  So is there any way to just pay for what i want to buy?

I may not want to buy something with the leftover points and even if i do am likely to have some leftover.  I'm not going to pay extra money and support a system that effectively hides the true cost of a product as i find it an incredibly unethical system.  So am i able to just pay the cost listed on the website or do i just have to not give any money to the company?

Me too, I just want to buy the DLC or exactly 560 points. If Bioware wants to charge $10 for the DLC, just say so instead of saying its $7 and ripping their customers off.

Your beef is with MS and it's as old as XBox Live.

If I wanted to get ripped off by MS, I would have bought an XBOX. I want nothing to do with that crap.

Oh? Same deal with Bioware points? Sorry, then.

I agree it sucks no matter who's doing it.

I totally agree, what are the odds that someone will be able to use exactly the number of points left over. What a raw deal! But if we want the DLC, we have to live with it I guess.

I agree.

Which is why until BioWare makes one of the following policy changes:
  • Allow us to get cash or credit card refunds for leftover point balances
  • Let us purchase an exact number of points.
  • Better yet, just let us go back to buying the DLC with a CC or Paypal!
I will be pirating all new BioWare PC DLC.

My personal philosophy has always been that I am willing to pay for a product I want, if you will let me!

But I refuse to buy any product that uses an onerous DRM or some equally shady business practice and I consider the whole point float issue to be just such a shady practice.

With the recent ISOHunt Court decision, I'll simply recommend that like-minded people use this List of Search Engines to show their disagreement with BioWare's current policy.

If you look under your "Profile", there's an option to add points, and it lets you choose other increments, including 560.

Thank you so much for that. I wanted to buy the DLC, but selling it in increments of 5, 10 lor 15 on the DLC page is not useful. Why they allow us to buy exactly 7 on the profile page but not on the DLC page is lame.

I was about to....get it some other way...and I bet other people already have. Hear that Bioware? People will pay if you don't use underhanded tactics to make more money!

That only covers one of BioWare's DLC price points.

What about people who want to buy one of the smaller (less useful) DLC packs?  They will end up with more than 200 points that they don't want and can't "cash out"?

While I realize that we aren't talking about a lot of money on a personal basis, when you multiply it by everyone likely to be in this situation, you should see that BioWare is cheating their fans out of a lot of money.

That 240 points left over from purchasing the "Alternate Appearance Pack" or "Feastday Gifts" doesn't mean much to you or me, after all $3 (at the current exchange rate) won't earn much interest in our personal checking/savings accounts, but with only 10,000 users stuck in this situation, BioWare will have $30,000 that they can earn interest on, or simply spend however they please.

I'll reiterate my original position...

The only way we can show BioWare our dislike of their current policy is by hitting them in their bottom line.

This means NOT paying for any PC based DLC that can not be purchased for cash/cc until you can either specify an exact number of BioWare points to purchase or get a cash/cc refund of your remaining BioWare point balance.

Whether this means you do without or discover the wonders of Bittorrent  is entirely dependent on your personal code of ethics.

I personally have no problem rationalizing that your current BioWare point balance is paying for my pirated Kasumi DLC.

You'll get no argument from me, or I dare say, anyone else in this forum on that point.  I've had 300+ MS points sitting there for months.  But at least in this one small instance, we solved a problem.  And being a lawyer who was an engineer before that, I live for solving problems!

And where the problem can't be solved, I'll personally call no foul on those who employ alternative means....

Ya I really hate how 360 started all this, I heard that someone took them to court but haven't heard who won.

Just a quick question, regarding BioWare-points; If I buy BioWare-points at the Dragon Age Store, can I use them at Mass Effect 2 DLCs?

Yes, I did it to buy the Kasumi DLC and it worked perfectly.

Thankyou, that is the sort of thing i was looking for. :)  I'm not sure if i should buy it now though since i do not agree with this method of buying a product.  I'll have to think about that.

Well this whole point system is pathetic, support is a bit laughable too..

I just got on to EA support asking why I have to buy 560 points in four transactions to get 2240 points for the DLC I wanted, Is it really so hard for them to charge in real currency ? I did not need bioware points to buy the game. So here is my conversation on live support ROFL

---------------------------

ME : Hi Scott, I just logged in to my bioware social network and want to purchase DLC packs, however I cannot purchase bioware points to equal the qty I require

ME : When I go to add bioware points, there is no option to specify how many I want... bit of a stupid system really, can I not just PAY ?

Scott: If you have to buy bioware points you need to visit social.bioware.com

ME : Im on http://social.bioware.com/page/me2-dlc already

Scott: You need to try buying the points using some other web browser.

ME : How will a web-browser change things ?

ME: bioware will not let me purchase 2240 bioware points, this is the qty I require for the DLC I am looking to buy. The options I have are to buy 400, 560, 800 or 1600 points

ME: So instead I need to perform 4 transactions @ 560 points each. instead of 1 transaction to buy what I want from the store.

Scott: You can buy the points in two slots. 1600 and 800 .

ME : and over-pay ? Why would anybody in their right mind want to over-pay for something ?

Scott: You can use the point in future, the point which will not be use in this purchase .

Scott: Except you

Scott: No one else can use your point .

ME : For what ?

ME : Tell you what, Ill send you £100 in case I want to spend it in 2 years.. If not, heck just keep it anyway in-case

ME : Thanks scott, but bad advise overall.

---------------------------

Well, I will probably go buy them in 4x transactions but really.. this is pathetic in this day and age, at least let me add them to a cart and bulk buy the bioware points!

How is that for a first post LOL.

With the recent problems a lot of people has had buying points I really discourage the cart system. If they can mess up with a simple 1 buy transaction imagine with the cart.

True, perhaps cart was the wrong way to present the solution, more like... add value to 1 point.
then let me type in xx points and work out what points X price is equal to and bill me.
Its not as if you get discount for purchasing more points.

Also, problems with repeat transactions can arise, so forcing me to do 4 transactions could lead to issues with my card, meaning I then have to spend time on the phone with my card issuer.. or wait for a while between each purchase LOL... bit backward if you ask me !

Its well known that multiple small transactions are what fraudsters use to 'test the waters'

Quoted from "Common problem areas, PLEASE READ FIRST **UPDATED**"
http://social.biowar...59/index/110561

"Rapidly re-trying purchases WILL cause your issuing bank/Paypal/CC to flag your account as possible fraud. This is just common sense, if your purchase fails, for whatever reason, DO NOT immediately re-try it. Go back into the game and enjoy yourself for a bit, retry again after a bit of time has elapsed."

I was just going to get those silly "feast day gifts and pranks" thingies for Dragon Age--the only DLC for the game I had not purchased. And, for the first time, I am finding that the DLC store does not provide me with an option to buy just the number of points I need to get the item I want. There is, so far as I can tell, no way to get just 240 Bioware points. So, since I was only sort of idly curious about them, I shan't be getting them at all. It's only $2 extra for the next-smallest increment, but I'm not falling into the same trap that Microsoft has pulled on me already, and start sitting there with a balance of surplus points that I will never be able to spend on anything I actually want. So they lose out on my $3, apparently.
