So on my latest playthrough I went with a female HN with the intent of falling in love with him and then sacrificing myself so that he can still be king. I was looking for a sort of tragic love story kinda feel, and for some reason I really like stories were the hero dies in the end, not sure what that says about me...
ANYway, I get there to that point and he wont let me do it! I killed the Archdemon 4 times to try and let him let me die... no such luck.
I'm kinda disappointed that I cant get the ending I wanted. Anyone else have this situation? Anyone know a way around it?
Oh, and I have it for the 360 so mods are out of the question for me.

The only way around it is to leave him at the gate. If he's with you at the archdemon and in love with your character there is no way to keep him from sacrificing himself without a mod which you can't get on the xbox.

Leave him at the gates. It's the only legit way (and, on a console, the only only way) to keep him from taking that blow if he loves you.

I was afraid of that. I really like the heart felt good bye they have before he takes the blow, and I was kinda hoping for the same kinda thing only with my character doing it instead... oh well.

You still get a bit of a farewell scene at the gate, but not as emotional as the one you get before the final blow.

You still get the farewell speech late when you are dead.

Good thing I have a save before the final battle, I will give that a try. Might not be exactly what I was looking for, but seems its the next best thing.

For what it's worth, I think it can be sadder and more emotionally resonant that Ali and the PC have to be separated for the Ultimate Sacrifice. He knows that she is leaving him behind to save him, and then there's the whole tragic scene I imagine when the archdemon explosion happens- a mixture of relief and heartbreak and an eensy, ill-advised sliver of hope that maybe Riordan was wrong and the PC will have survived.

Aye.  Posted Image  What made me choke up when I was contemplating this ending for my HNF character was the thought of her leaving her mabari behind and telling him that his job was to guard Alistair now.  And I did picture them both looking up at Fort Drakon and the mabari howling because he would know somehow.  *sniffle"

It is odd serendipity, but on that same character- after I had thought about that and decided I couldn't do it after all- I happened to notice that her mabari was following Alistair all over during the part where you first are fighting at the gates.  This is where you don't have control over any allies.  It was so funny, but touching in a way, like the mabari knew he was now supposed to guard both of them.  (I can pull sentimental squee out of anything, 'tis true.  LOL)

I pulled a quick screenshot at the time, that's Alistair off to the right and the mabari stuck to him like glue.

Didn't think of that. That does seems quite tragic. There is also the fact that if Alistair is not with you he probably does not know that Riordan died, but the Warden does. She know she has to die.
The more I think of this, the more it seems closer to what I wanted.

Alistair is a hero too. What man wouldn't give his life to save the woman he loves? Or rather, what man would allow the woman he loves to sacrefice herself in order for him to survive? A very, very lame man!

I kind of wish you could get a fare-well speech with your romance before you go off to kill the Archdemon.

I'm not really into playing females, and I play males. In one of my US endings I had my pal Alistair and Leliana my romance with me. The speech with him was sad, but I wish you could do the same thing with her.

I agree, even though I don't ever do the US or romance anyone else except Alistair, lol. But I can't imagine that a person could just run into his own death without saying goodbye to the person they are in love with. Heck, they could have shown a short cutscene with your PC kissing their love before the killing the Archdemon cutscene.
