Physical resistance, is it's worth stacking?

I noticed that the physical resistance stat caps at 100.  Do you think physical resist is worth maxing out?  Even at 100 is seems like it doesn't grant immunity to resist checks, although it does seem to help against certain spell effects.

It is a value, not a percentage. A value of 100 does not provide immunity, just the maximum possible resistance to all effects that check against physical resistance. Not sure what you mean by "stacking," though. Using items that add physical resistance when it is already at 100 will provide you no additional resistance.

What I mean is that you have to stack runes, Grandmaster and Master Hale along with armor bonuses to get it up to 100. That's why I'm wondering if it's worth stacking because those take up at least two rune slots.

So far I find that having 100 physical resist for my Rogue is nice for avoiding paralysis spells and the occasional knockdown, but it is hard to say what the relative value of that attribute is compared to using damage-dealing runes.

Physical resistance is nice to have...but not super useful. It only provides full or partial resistance to any effects that check your physical resistance value. It does not effect normal damage or attack damage.

It surely helps with dragon and ogre encounters. My 2 Awakening warriors (DW and SS) both shrugged off Ogre and Dragon knockdown attacks.

It's mainly to avoid effects like knockback, knockdown or stun (doesn't work on the grab or overwhelm though). Always good to have but not really necessary, spell resist runes might be more useful. By the way, spell resist and hale runes are better suited for 2H warriors (since the damage runes are not as efficient because of the attack speed).

I usuallt put 3 GM hale runes in my tanks sword which is like 75 physical resistance, this works well it might be over kill but as far as i am concerned i would rather have MOre than i need than less. I used to get yelled at by raid leaders in WoW because i would over heal from time to time, but i would always tell them under healing has to be worse than over healing. It never mattered they always checked stats after the raid and would **** because i would heal more than any body else, i threw off thier numbers. What ever that means, which is why i like DAO so much i can do what i want and no ****ing.

Many spells check against physical resistance, so it's useful if you want to resist things like weakness. In fact, without 100% spell resistance, it's your best option to remain an effective melee combatant.

Agreed. I use any and all high level resistance runes that I can and I have been able withstand powerful knockdowns by all sorts of enemies, even the archdemon to a point. I play an elf or human rogue and  favor wearing stat boosting armor such as Felons Coat or Shadow of the Empire. Only actual heavy armor I will wear is the Warden Commander suit if I want to let my ego go to my head and look official. Posted Image

Are you sure it doesn't work against grab or overwhelm ?
My AW was totally immune to the Archdemon's grab attempts but I'm not sure what was the cause: high physical resistance (>100) or high defense ?

overwhelm and grab are not attacks, they're special talents, so it's not defense. For the overwhelm I'm sure, you can't avoid it even with high res (doesn't affect animals, golems and large monsters though). For the grab there are 2 grabs (the jaw and the hand, jaw ones are for dragons, the other for ogres and the broodmother), I only looked with the hand grab, so maybe the dragon grab works differently (since it's a different script).

I think you probably  need to clarify on what you mean by immune. Dragon generally will look at the char position before triggering grab. Unless the char is position beyond a certain point in front of the front paws, grab cannot trigger.

However, it you mean if you get grabbed and chewed by dragons (or just grabbed and overwhelm in general) and barely changed your hp, then its the high armour of your AW. Nothing to do with def and phy res.

By immune I mean being in front of the Dragon, hitting it with my sword, seeing its head going up and down towards my AW but missing...

Maybe its just not scripted to do so. I do know that AD does grab npcs like Eamon but I can't seem to rmb if it in fact grabbed the party.

Anyways, phy res or def does not prevent grab. Afaik, there are positioning tricks to avoid dragon grabs. It might even due to the fact that dodge% kicked in at a right time. But to know for sure, you can load up an old save and try baiting the AD to use grab on you again. I would have tested it myself if my disc was available.

Yeah I've never noticed the AD grabbing a party member either. He does grab random NPCs alright though. I don't know if it's merely a coincidence or it's actually supposed to work like that.

Ditto.  I've never been grabbed by the AD so now my meleers just charge in.
