Hey all.

I've attached an image of an top-down shot of my area. I plopped down some random building multiple times, basically to outline the playable area. My question is about chunks and their importance.

http://i60.photobuck...ester_chunk.jpg

From what I gather, a chunk is "room" in itself, as it contains its own model/tree/lighting/lod list?

Looking at the attached shot, have I got the chunk sizes correct for the playable area? Should there be more? Less?

Should I be placing models/editing terrain "inside" a chunk? I can see that part of the curvy path at the bottom is overlapping into another chunk. Should I aim to contain this entire path within the 1 chunk? I read that you should keep the playable area to within 4x4 chunks, with a certain amount for vista outside of that? From a technical standpoint, what is the whole idea behind chunks?

Wiki has some info on chunks, but not enough to tell me if I'm using them correctly.

Wiki also says that you can run a terrain level in "preview mode"? after an exportable area has been created. Where is this option?

Cheers guys!

Bumpy bump.. Still can't find much relevant material on this..

I created a rough layout and added some buildings, none of which overlap into another chunk. Now when I turn on view chunks map, some of the buildings are highlighted in red.. What is the cause of this and what does it mean?
