Has Cerberus done terrible things, yes. However have they done anything terrible to you, Shepard, personally? Unless you're a sole survivor the answer is not really. So 2 out of 3 Shepards shouldn't have a problem with Cerberus.

Also they brought you back to life and gave you a pimped out ride (and the freedom to further pimp out said ride), add to that the fact that they pay you for the work you're doing and that's got to be worth something.

They also tried to kill Shepard!

If you refer to the Cerberus operatives in ME1 then I must point out A) That wasn't the organiation attempting to kill Shepard and B) If you kick in the door of any military, para-military, guy in his basement making pipe bombs who thinks he's military, etc. facility I guarantee you'll get much the same response.

If you refer to some other event I must admit to ignorance and ask you to clarify.

So if it wasn't done to you you have no right to hate something horrific or try to put a stop to it?

No that kind of thinking's just insane.  If it wasn't done to you it's not your problem and it shouldn't bother you.

I am always surprised at how often "they brought Shep back" comes up in the Cerberus debates.

Shouldn't be that surprising, it's one obvious and very tangible positive for the organization that potentially scores a lot of points (depending on how much fear you feel towards death and how much you enjoy life).  I'm not saying it should give them carte blanche, but it's got to be worth something.

There are two possibilities

1) Cerberus already had the IFF, Shepard was sent to the Reaper to destroy it
2) Cerberus copied the IFF once Shepard obtained it

It may be bias but i vote this.

Software or not, its a reaper tech. You can't just copy it.

Its mostly just a signal that ship sends out when going through a relay.  Language if you will, copying it as software shouldn't be too problematic.

I also think that, that is the most likely scenario

But its reaper technology

The Collector Base, sending in one ship is more effecient than sending in a fleet.  What they did not realize however that installing it onto a ship would send out a signal to the Collectors

EDIT:  Also if my first option is correct you were the cleanup crew and were just picking up the IFF prototype or whatever that was

Maybe he did this so he could keep the real secret unknown for a longer time.

Someone hasn't played Mass Effect 1.... Cerberus' crimes there are... troubling, to put it mildly.

And if you've read the Ascension novel.... you wouldn't really be asking this question :)

And if you've seen / read all those things and still don't think Cerberus is a vile, dispicable organization worthy of hatred.... then you may want to visit a specialist that can instruct you how to fix your moral compass :)

I'm not a supporter of Cerberus, but after playing ME 1 I am certain of one thing and have a belief in another

1) Kahoku was a liability

2) (it seems like) Cerberus is still apart of the Alliance

Neither entity can be trusted

Also the Alliance/Cerberus thing is perspective

As Shepard you are more likely to believe in the Alliance since you worked for them in ME 1 (From a player perspective)

Much like Miranda in ME 2 believes in Cerberus

Not to mention that an Earthborn Shepard would be a big fan of the Alliance since that was how he/she got out of a life of crime, poverty and gangs.

So for an earthborn soul survivor Shepard the lines are fairly clear.

They saved you once but tried to kill you many times over.

Wouldn't it be more accurate by saying Cerberus brought you back regardless of you hunting them down?

Will it change any opinion if I say they fired first?

In Texas if you walk on someone's lawn carrying weapons I'd expect that the owner of that propery to fire first.

Hey, guys! As much as I like TIM's manipulativeness, I think this is going a little too far. If that was the case TIM would've sent a standard clean up crew. And just provided Shepard with the IFF code. So that to give Shepard yet another reminder, that he is not the only capable person in the Galaxy.

Ok, by your logic you would ignore a woman being mugged on the street.  It's not happening to you so you shouldn't care right?

And I would be very creeped out if someone tried to bring me back from the dead (assuming my soul exists).  I would much rather stay dead then be brought back as a zombie.  That's just me though.

3) Bioware forgot about the IFF thing when making the cutscenes. Given the rest of the plot, this makes most sense.

Yeah, Greedo fired first, too. We witless kids all know that now.
