Why does everyone in this game hate cerberus ? Yeh sure they've done some extreme stuff in the past like torture Jack. But tbh, i think they're pretty cool, they gave me a ship, hell i'd work for them rather than the alliance anyday.

It's how they were portrayed in in ME1:
-conducted horrific experiments intending to create super soldiers, including experiments on rachni and Thorian Creepers
-accidentally unleashed rachni on Listening Posts Alpha and Theta when their experimental subjects -- shipped from Noveria -- escaped from Depot Sigma-23.
-deliberately destroyed a settlement on Chasca by turning the colonial pioneer team there into Husks
-Corporal Toombs also claimed that in one of their most devastating experiments, Cerberus lured thresher maws to the colony on Akuze, resulting in the notorious massacre, later capturing Toombs -- one of the only survivors -- to conduct brutal tests.
-lured marines under Rear Admiral Kahoku to a thresher maw nest using a distress beacon (similar to the "experiment" they allegedly conducted on Akuze).
-Cerberus had Kahoku killed
-the Sole Survivor background leaves Shepard psychologically scarred during the events of the thresher maw attack on Akuze
-Jack

In ME2, you're railroaded to team up with these guys: you can't argue or choose.  The Council, Alliance and Ashley/Kaidan is retconned to not do anything about the Collector or Reaper threat, despite the events and ending of ME1.

If you're playing a Renegade character, Cerberus would be right up your alley.

Much as I can tell, Cerberus the organization isn't evil.

Just ruthless, persay. You have to remember that Cerberus itself is divided into many "cells", which operate seperately from each other. All of the cells are overseen by TIM personally, and he gives them all funding and different objectives. These objectives all, more or less, have the same end in mind, the advancement of humankind.

I can easily see that "evil" and ruthless actions taken by certain cells of Cerberus would reflect (extremely) badly on the organization itself, but thats also why Jacob and Miranda so vehemently defend themselves against others calling Cerberus out on the carpet.

Personally, I thought that Cerberus warranted just one chance from me because we both wanted the same thing, and if they screwed it up, I'm gone.

Besides for the whole thing with Jack (that was messed up) I have no real problems working with them.

They obviously aren't the most friendly guys in the universe, but they get the job done no matter the cost. As does my Cmd. Shepard.

They brought you back from the gates of hell. Its funny how quickly people forget.

They saved you once but tried to kill you many times over.

Wouldn't it be more accurate by saying Cerberus brought you back regardless of you hunting them down?

The statements are as accurate as each other. Perspective. It's all about perspective.

This is only accurate to a point. If you tried to say that Cerberus ever tried to kill Shepard, that it was a goal of their organization, a goal they actively pursued your perspective on the matter would be a gross misinterpretation of reality.

Anyways, I think that this debate is stupid because most of you are too young and naive, so you're incapable of making a solid argument of your own, only one that is made of the same regurgitated points.

Honestly, you're like the kind of kids that thought Darth Vader was lying about being Luke's father and wanting to overthrow the Emporer. Mass Effect 2 has introduced a twist to the plot by having you team up with "the bad guys" because neither the alliance or the council will be effectual against the reapers and Shepard must forge his own path or seek out his own alliances if they're ever going to be defeated.

Arguing about who is or isn't evil will get you nowhere. We've already established the council races and others have done plenty of bad things in the past even though they don't have such a criminal repuation.

Whose Shepard going to be rolling around with in ME3? The Krogan, The Geth, The Rachni, and possibly criminal organizations allied with Aria T'loak to name a few. I mean the whole galaxy is at stake and the reality of the Mass Effect universe is that these people have to learn to work together if they're going to stop an even greater threat. So going on and on about how Cerberus is evil is just dumb.

Also it's fitting that your decision to basically tell the organization you work for to f*ck off in the first game is a renegade decision and in game 2 it's a paragon decision.

NOTE: Bioware has stressed that paragon/renegade is not a good/evil meter.

My main is a renegade who despises Cerberus. I didn't give them the base and hey the renegade lines for telling TIM to stuff it are pretty satisfying.

A common misconception is that Renegade = evil. A mistake BioWare themselves tend to make often too (especially with the whole Renegade Sith Lord look) but it's more nuanced than that, and no I don't consider myself a paragade either, simply a renegade who isn't all about picking the red option every time.

I agree , the main objective for shephard is to save The Galaxy & its inhabitent's.

So one can only say get it done saving as many life's as possiable or get it down by any mean's possiable .:wizard:

I think deciding whether Cerberus is evil all comes to whether or not you think the Illusive Man is evil. And by evil, I mean psychopath. By giving each Cerberus cell carte blanche to achieve their goals, he can claim innocence if they go too far. But even when they go too far, even if he shuts them down, he will always use whatever that cell has managed to achieve. Even if the cell doesn't use nefarious means, it's all about achieving the Illusive Man's one single goal: dominance for humanity with Cerberus (him) in control.

Psyyyychooopath.

Timmy crossed the moral event horizon long before he resurrected Shepard. Akuze, whether he authorized it or not, is on his head, since he still claims to be Cerberus.
